:confused:I looked in the FAQ without any luck. For you guys that track your V regularly what do you do for tow hooks? Any threads out there that you can point me to?

V1's do not have tow hooks. Best advise is to talk to the tow truck drivers before each event, and discuss where to hook up a strap in case you may need it.

I'm pretty sure he realizes the car has no tow hooks, which is why he's asking. :p

I thought I remembered the subject being discussed in a thread here or over on LS1tech, but I'm not finding anything now. I know I've seen people add tow hooks to low slung vehicles at track days, but I haven't seen any V owners do so. It would certainly be tough to tow the car without something added on, as it's pretty hard to reach the control arms or subframes, particularly if the car is lowered.

Picture below:
On the front fascia there are two small rectangular slots in what looks like a frame cross member. You think that may be strong enough? Perhaps a screw in type tow hook could be installed here. You'd have to slot the bumper cover though. It would be pretty high but I've seen alot of bumper intergrated setups that look pretty tidy. Remember that hot D3 Design blown V1 posted back a few weeks ago? That had a flat style hook sticking out from under the splitter. Same style in the back.

You can see it under the splitter. Have no idea how that attached it

Here's a pic of Naf's money pit with the front off. You can see the big horizontal brace I'm talking about. I wonder in you could mount to that and through the bumper.

Think I saw one on the corvette forums that folds down. If you cut the lower grill a bit, you can probably mount it to the bumper.

The "big horizontal brace" is the bumper beam, which is attached to the frame by a couple of shock-absorbing dampers. They're not designed to be pulled. It might work, but I wouldn't recommend that.

Hmmm.....I was afraid of that.

Whats the worst that could happen? Explode the air bag maybe? Yank the fascia off the car?

Judging by Naf's pick, there doesn't seem to be a good place.

Unfortunately it happened to me a year plus ago when I tossed the serpentine belt at VIR. The only way they could tow it was to put it in the wheel harness which worked fine but resulted in me having to have the wheels repainted and the hood buffed out and clearcoated because as the car would sway the harness was rubbing. Not exactly an ideal situation but with the belly pan underneath there is literally nothing to attach to. I just thought that with all the guys that track their V somebody else must have run into this situation before and I haven't seen a workable fix.

Its called a bumper brace...Cheez

You will have to run a racing eye all the way from the front frame just behind the rad...

Its an easy mod if you have a jacklift, drills and maybe a welding machine, but then you will have clearance issue with speed bumps inclines and declines...

There is a foldin type they use on the vettes but we cant. no proper area to place it in.

I am lookin for options for my "money pit" seems to like being moved on tow trucks than drive on her own...

Btw, AEM airfliter is now gone, and the volant tube as well...Replaced them with a modified yella terra tube, and 100mm LPE MAF.

I had to make one that didn't require and cutting or drilling of the front bumper. The only difference is that I don't have a V bumper. It was also quick to remove when I wasn't at the track.

The tow hook came in handy once.
