Which car is better? Which would you buy? I don't think there is a comparison on these two yet, but I am amazed by the XLR technology at this time.

Lexus: 300 hp @5600 rpm / torque 325 @3400 rpm

XLR : 320 hp @6400 rpm / torque 310 @4400 rpm

XLR looks a lot better. The SC 430 is more generic and boring looking. The XLR is the best looking Art & Science car (well it and Cien).

I agree! The Lexus is nice looking, and more rounded off but in the end just too short and stubby IMO. However, the interior is to die for!

I like the appearance of the classic Roadster (XLR) long hood, short deck, etc.

XLR, it's interior feels like it's missing something when compared to the SC430, but at least it's exterior doesn't look like a jello blob. Interior part of the doors could use some wood on them to break up the rather boring look. I'm not sold on the door handles either because of possible electrical failures. I don't want to get on my knees to look for a keyhole to open my luxury roadster...

What I was wondering about is if there is a manual override for opening the doors? What if the battery dies or you break the remote? Since there are no keys for this car, how would you get in? Remember, the car is alerted to your presence, but also, what if the battery dies and the doors are electronically locked? Things to think about I suppose.

i would pick the XLR because it looks better and is based on the Vette chasis, so it's faster and has better handling. but the interior of the Lexus is very good, better than the XLR. i dont think that the little difference in the interior makes up for the looks and performance u get fron the car.

There's a way to unlock it with a key, but it's hidden near the bottom.

You guys are forgeting that there is no other car that looks like an XLR. The SC430 on the other hand looks just like a Toyota Solara, same body lines and everything. I guess though all of the Lexus's look like there toyota siblings.

A lot of people think the SC430 is now out of fashion, but the XLR is in vogue.

Okay, what's the best GT coupe in the world? By this, I don't mean sports car, like the Corvette or Viper or Porsche 911.

Here's some more:

Jaguar XK8
Maserati GT
BMW 6-Series
Infiniti G35
Ford Thunderbird
Aston Martin DB9
TVR Cerbera
Invicta S1 (does anyone else know this car?)

This is what I'm talking about! A real comparison. Two extremely similiar vehicles in similiar price brackets with similiar engine displacement and features. Props to whoever came up with this comparison! Wow, I'm going to have to do some research this a little bit before posting an opinion.

The SC430 was ALWAYS out of fashion. It is an example of the worst of Toyota design.

I don't know, the interior is as nice as any Jags, and that wood!!

Plus that cute girl on that Terminator movie drove one. :p

That TVR Cerera is hot. TVRs might come here in a few years.

I'd go with an Aston Martin DB9.

Great pics, and nice choice! Seems like everybody has a Jag roadster. There was a movie a few years ago I believe with John Travolta and they got permission supposedly to bring in a Cerebra for it because I don't think they allow them in NA for safety issues?

The SC430 is an utter bore.

However... there is no question...

And if thats not enough fun... Spring for another 60k (almost the cost of the XLR to start with I know) and get the ROMPING SL65. ...605hp.

Get neither.

Get a new Corvette instead.

Faster...

Less expensive...

Moe fun to drive...

More powerful chick magnet...

Faster than a speeding bullet...

Able to leap tall building in a single bound....

Oops, sorry about the last two lines, I got carried away.

Still, get a Corvette (I can't wait till my 4 kids are through with college)

I'm betting that the Vette would have a bone-jarring ride compared to the XLR? A gentleman prefers a soft ride. :D Otherwise the cute blonde in your passenger seat will be complaining that she cannot put on her makeup. ;) Has anyone tested both? I think when firm handling is essential, the XLR will tighten up enough?

Actually I agree with 1Toycad... Since I tend to like real enthusiast vehicles... The Z06 C6 would be higher on my list than the XLR or even the XLR-V. I mean come on... 500 Horses of real american muscle coming from 7 WHOPPING LITRES OF DISPLACEMENT Auurrrr!!!

I don't know much about it, but I bet the price will be as much or more than an XLR. I'd be happy with 320 hp, especially since I know how hard my Dad's DTS pulls with 300, and not to mention a lightweight body and ZOOM.

I don't even want to guess what that new Vette would cost here, but I'll bet over 100k. XLR's are $117,000 after tax! A Zo6 last year I saw at the dealer was $77,000. I'm pretty sure the XLR-V will not be outdone by a Corvette? Any numbers on those yet?

The price target for the new Corvette Z06 is the base 911 which is around $70,000.

The XLR-V should get the STS-V's powertrain.

The thing I heard about this new Z06 now after asking my buddy is that it's going to be very "limited" in production. So realistically, how many of these things are going to be around anyway? 500 per year? Chances are we'll never see one for a while. If an XLR was available I'd get one if I couldn't wait, because they are really unique IMO.

I always here about cars being Limited production or what not, but in the end they end up not being so limited. Theres a ton of C5 Z06's running around. The SRT8 is supposed to be limited too, but as soon as Chrysler figures out what theyve got Im sure thatll change.

Well, we know that's true with cars like the Buick "Limited" or anything they made. I'm thinking this will be more limited in production sort of like the Bullitt Mustang (never reached the projected 5000 made) or certain Cobra Mustangs, etc. because it is special and they'll probably have a hard time passing emissions, etc. (doesn't that usually effect availability?)

So the XLR is a just a Chevy?

Both are great cars. the SC leaning towards luxury more and the XLR more towards sport.

And I 2nd the Z06 motion!!!

Yeah, I'm not big on those popular "it's just a Toyota" comments either. Toyota knows their stuff. It's not "nothing" for a company to steal sales from would-be Mercedes S-Class buyers. Toyota was "just a toyota" back in the 70s and early 80s. 1989 changed everything...

Up until just a few years ago, BMW owners used to say, "It's just a Cadillac".. Not anymore.. Times change..

Aston Martin DB5.........or AMV8.....under 100k and unique.
