View Full Version : History of Cadillac?

Well what the heck - might as well jump in here.

I'm a brand new member of the forums, as well as a brand new Cadillac owner (as of one week ago). My wife and I just purchased a 1996 Eldorado, and I would really like to explore the history and mistique of the Cadillac. Can anyone recommend a book that covers at least up to the '96 models? I've found a few on eBay that don't go that recent, but none that cover at least '96. Any on-line reading would be of great interest too.

My car was purchased on eBay. This is my third on-line purchase - two Corvettes and now the Cadillac. The car was in Florida, one owner, and only has 55K miles. Burgandy in color. My wife is in transit right now, bringing it home to N. Idaho. We're about to put the 'vette away for the winter, so I'm anxiously awaiting our new arrival!

Welcome. Very nice Eldo. Awesome color. Good thing she got it before the hurricanes took it.

Very nice site - the first one. The second is flashy too!
I devoured them already, and bookmarker them to boot.

Any more - I want to know more - espeecially about the Northstar engine.

Apparantly our Eldo was inside a wherehouse during the hurricanes. Also, it was a little South of the bad stuff, so there was no damage at all.

I really like the color too! (It's almost the same as my 1987 'vette was.)

Thanks! This forum rocks!

You can find History on this site just http://www.cadillacforums.com/cadillac/

You said you wanted to know more about the Northstar well I'll give you my brief summary.

The Northstar; well the northstar is not only an engine but the whole workings of the car pretty much from the suspension to the transmission and so on. The Northstar engine was first put in the 1993 Cadillac Allante' pace car the first version of the engine had 295hp and 290ftlbs of torque. If I am not mistaken the engines developement started in the 80's. Then a few years down the road I think '94 or '95 the northstar was upgraded to 300hp or 275hp and 295lbs of torque or 300lbs of torque. The current production Northstar engine is 320hp 315 torque and was redesigned as of 2003 I believe. The Northstar is made to run like new at 100,000 miles + and can be known to make oil disapear due to the boar in the block for the cylinders. The Northstar engines bore is supposed to be very very durible. Also the Northstar can run without coolant for 50 miles at about 50mph converting 4 cylenders into air pumps to cool the engine. The Northstar is all alluminum for the most part and due to its closeness in torque and hp it has a very wide power band. The old Northstar engines transmission is the 4t80-E hydramatic. Hope that kinda sums up the wonder engine called Northstar and wha the true 32VNorthstar V8 4.6 liter is.

Do some more research on the Allante' ist got one cool history.

got any more questions?

Northstar gas mileage varies but you usually see 18/27mpg

More questions? ? I'm sure there will be - I haven't even seen the car first hand yet!

I live a little north of you - real close to Coeur d'Alene.

There are some really rich people up there towards Couer d' Alene. My brother has a friend up there with like a 6 million dollar home. If you live on the lake either you house is really nice or a shack hahaha. Hope you get the car asap and that it arrives safe.
