Thanks guys,
It's not my 1st RWD caddy my other is a 57 Eldorado Biarritz, great car not so much fun to drive in the city these days.
With the Phaeton I need to get the headliner done, a small tear in the passenger seat, a little paint on the doors, and start the search for some interior dash parts.
It's raining cats and dogs today but I'll get some pics tomorrow and post them up

Congrats-- can`t wait for the pics! I was actually watching "GOODFELLAS" on dvd last nite---great looking Phaeton and Sedan Devilles in that movie!
If you can, post some info on how you fix your headliner.I've got a '78 Sedan Deville with a headliner that`s just starting to go.The fabric is beginning to separate from what it`s supposed to be adhered to.

I am taking it to Pacific Auto Trim on Monday, They are doing to deal with the headliner and the split in the leather,
I did an interior detail today 3 + hours, it's starting to look and smell good/better.
I am missing a bunch of small parts, 1 ashtray, 1 cigarette lighter, spare wheel cover, and the dash trim around the radio is kinda sketchy,
The power antenna doesn't work, I'm guessing is raised lowered by the right knob on the radio.
Plus the AM part of the radio doesn't seem to be working so a bit tough to keep up with the sports tlak channels here.
I am sure I'll find a few More things.
Now back to hre NFL packers/atlanta

Congrats on your new-to-you Phaeton! Sounds like you'll soon have all those detail problems sorted out. As far as the antenna, it goes up and down automatically when the radio is turned on or off. There is no manual control as in previous years.

Looking forward to those pictures!

If you can hear your power antenna whine when you shut down the radio, your motor and signal from the radio is intact. Your problem is the connection at the drive, inside the antenna spool.
If you can't hear the motor, your problem is most likely the circuit between the radio and the antenna. Check this first before going after the antenna.

Thanks for the info,
I don't hear anything and the mast is fixed at 1/2 staff so it must be the circuit, is there a fuze or is it something else that needs replacing?
Would this effect the AM signal

looks very good, fillers are in very good shape for the age of car. Loving the interior....hmmm maybe because it's the same as mine. What color are you painting it? Same I hope. Wish mine was this color but mie is a colonial yellow.
You can try local salvage yards for the parts you need or shoot me a list; I head out to the yards here and I can find what you need.

Guy.....I dropped into Pacific Auto Trim on Thursday because they had just finished the new vinyl top on my Junkyard Dog. I saw your new Phaeton there and looked it over. I have most of the bits and pieces you need particularly the glovebox door check strap also the ashtray, lighter (5 to choose from all new) a tire cover and trunk mat. When you go to pick up your car, give George or Anita your phone number and we can catch up.

Wow---12% sales tax--that`s really high.Is there anyway you could get just what was charged for the headliner only? Maybe they have itemized on the receipt.
We`d all like to see some pics of the new repairs--if you can/choose to.

Nice ride and beautiful color; fits great to these cars. Congrats for your caddy and for the quick restoration you´ve started so soon. I´ve to start repairing several things in my 69 SDV but in Spain, where I live, it´s difficult finding a mechanic that knows these cars... I´ve contacted one, recommended by a friend´s friend that has a caddy too restored by this guy. Let´s see.

I hope you can fully enjoy soon such a sweet car ;)

The passenger compartments on these cars are really, really air tight. It still takes a good slam to get the doors closed on my 77 even with the old seals in place.

Awesome! Always nice to see another Phaeton lover keeping one of them cared for. Great color combo, too. ;)

Do you know if the roof was ever redone? I ask because it doesn't have the opera lights. Just wondered if maybe they had stopped working, and a previous owner just left them off when having the top done. On the other hand, if it's the original top, and it never had opera lights, that would make it a VERY early '79, and quite a rare Phaeton. Could you find out what month it was made it? Should be one of the 1st lines on the body tag in the cowl.

Can't wait to see more pictures! If you have any questions, just ask.

So what was the deal with the bottoms of the doors? Did somebody do a rust repair and never get to finish it? Did they bondo the inside of the skin too or what? Also, I'll assume you're having them paint inside the bottoms too, of course.

It looks like the car has been fully repainted in the past (dead giveaway is the brown pinstripes & stick on side molding, also the Phaeton emblems are mounted in the wrong place, should be above the molding.) I wonder why they just didn't get the door jambs done at the same time? Or maybe it's an older repaint from before rust started to form.

Did the seller tell you anything about the history of the car? I just love finding out about what a car's story is. I was extremely lucky to get the original options list & owner's manual with mine.

Love, love, love your car, and can't wait to hear more!

Seller didn't tell me anything about the car, only that he had it 2 years.
The doors had a few rust bubbles on the bottom edge, and the body shop on the corner was supposed to paint the inside of both doors but forgot about the drivers side near the door jamb.
It appears to have had a couple of scrapes and been repainted in bits and pieces.
I am chasing the usual electrical gremlins, rear defrost, blower motor only works on the defrost mode.
No AM or working antenna.
The radio surround is in bad shape so I will be on the look out for that.
All in all it's in much better shape than my poor old Lesabre they are hacking away at to restore my ragtop!

Out of curiosity, what year is that leSabre?
That's a 1975 that I bought last year from the estate of a 94 year old lady for $900.00,
it's a pretty low option car but it has an all correct low miles 455 (plus some high compression heads) that will go in the ragtop.
It's too bad to trash a solid car but there is no one interested in restoring 4doors.

deVille33
02-25-11, 10:54 AM
I had a '76 leSabre. I loved it, but it was in bad condition, bodywise, when I got it. Tried to save it, but it seemed the cancer just kept spreading. I put a 455 in it, major difference. Hated to see her go. However her demise led to my total facination with 1977 - 79 Cadillacs.

I'm gonna be outta town for a couple of weeks, so I'm dropping the caddy off at my local garage for all the glitch's and gremlins that have been bugging me.
the list reads as follows.....
Paint valve covers
Paint Air cleaner
Organize tubes, hoses etc under hood (passenger side windshield washer nozzle not working)
Heater only works on blower. (I have purchased center dash control unit on ebay may arrive when I’m away)
All Cigarette lighters don’t work
Electric antenna stuck at ˝ mast
Rear window defroster not working
Courtesy light is out in drivers door
The drive cable to the automatic trunk closer needs to be placed correctly ( it’s tangled with the wiring harness) the trunk works fine
Windshield wiper switch is intermittent at best, wiper button works (I have purchased control unit on ebay may arrive when I’m away)
Re and re the relay box (holds the relays) next to the headlight dimmer switch, it has come loose from it clips
Negative terminal on battery needs a ground to firewall
Install aadco rear stabilizer bar (supplied)
(service manual in back seat if required)
Replace wiper blades (supplied)
Replace radio with repaired one
I'm hoping it will seem like a brand new car when I get back!

P.S. still looking for the center dash radio surround bezel with the burl wood inlay for a 79 (in great shape of course).

My local garage...Fred's has been pretty good to me, I chased an oil leak on my 57 caddy for 2 years the other guys kept telling me it was the rear seal.
Replaced 2 not including the original. Big $$$ had to drop the tranny every time. They (Fred's) diagnosed it correctly as a faulty O ring seal on the dip stick.
+ they work with me on short notice with all the little grumpy problems I have with my big Block Buick Ragtops.
I'll post more pic's when I get back!

Back in town and picked up the caddy from my garage, lots of little things fixed,
I think the addition of the rear sway bar makes the car handle and corner much better,
I paid $120.00 for the Aadco rear sway bar from amazon it is really worth it.
Here is a list of what I'm still plugging away on.....

Heater doesn't work at all now. (I have to purchase the under dash control unit)
Electric antenna stuck at ˝ mast (need new antenna)
Windshield wiper switch works, wiper button doesn't ((this is opposite to the way it was perhaps the replacement part is faulty?)
Replace wiper blades (supplied the wrong size)
P.S. still looking for the center dash radio surround bezel with the burl wood inlay for a 79 (in great shape of course).

It's been a whle since my last post, mostly just been driving and enjoying the caddy,
I found a number of parts on craigslist so will be dropping the car back at Fred's garage for more fixes

Re and Re carb,
Wiper wash button not working, wipers work fine. (extra supplied if needed)
Re and re heater controls and unit in passenger floor well (parts supplied)
Power antenna connection under hood (new one supplied)
Re dash center panel (parts supplied)
New fuse box and auxiliary relay panel supplied
Drivers door sometimes won’t open with key (electrical?)
