Tractor pulls > F1

But still, awesome link. Really puts things into perspective. F1 really doesn't look that fast when covered from a blimp and broadcasted on TV.

True, I went to the USGP in 2004 and it's really something else to see in person. Provided everything goes as planned I'll be road-tripping to Austin next year for F1's return to the US.

:cool2: You should sit on a hotel balcony over a hairpin turn at GP de Monaco .

Me, too, on both counts. Maybe we should meet up while there. I used to live in Austin and plan to go back.

As for the USGP, I attended several they had at Indy (04-07). And it spoiled me terribly. I got hooked at the French Grand Prix back in '03. And I'm sorry, no other racing can compare to Formula One. I just hope the circuit in Austin comes to fruition and lasts longer (i.e., remains profitable) than the Indy deal did.

For wheel to wheel racing nothing can compare to Midget racers at O'reilly Raceway Park. F1 races are parades and all the passing is in the pits. F1 organizers have been trying for twenty years to develope a strategy that would force the cars to actually race against each other on the track, without success.

I agree with Koz. I don't care how fast F1 cars are really. There's not enough actual action for me to stay interested in a whole race. It's a yawnfest - and the commentators and personalities they have (if you can even call them that) are terrible. No thanks.

This is why you must watch the BBC broadcast instead of the garbage on speed, night and day difference.

Gizmo I'd be glad to meet up with you next year :cool2:

Ya gotta understand, I'm a tech guy. I got interested in cars as a kid with an AFX Race Car Set and rebuilt the cars so they stuck tighter to the track (just like F1 does for real). As far as speed, that, too, has me hooked. Having done 200+ on the ground and Mach 1+ in the air, speed is a thrill I'll never tire of.

Agreed, SpeedTV sucks. Live is best, and BBC makes watching on TV tolerable.

Its a date!

This is always neat to watch, Richard Hammond trying to drive an F1 car.

I feel his pain/thrill! It took me over a year to master the F1 game with traction control on, then another 9 months without. The game also gave me a new respect for the crew chief cause there are so many minute variables to adjust in order to setup the car to be competitive for each different race/weather condition.

Another validation why "Top Gear" BBC kicks "Top Gear" USA into the weeds. Very cool video (and oh how I'd like to be Hammond one time).

F1 came to San Antonio once in the '90s and my Dad had a friend with a hotel room in the Hilton Palacio Del Rio overlooking the circuit. It was fun to watch for about the first 14 minutes.

Formula 1 racing, especially for the spectator, is about waiting for someone making a mistake. If no one screws up there really isn't much exciting to watch. The same thing is true, to a lesser extent about stock car racing.

Let's face if a car doesn't break down or disintegrate, or there isn't wreck the whole spectacle is pretty boring .... kind of like ants building a nest! Until something goes wrong it's all pretty mundane.

Probably why there is so much wine and beer swilling at these events ....... and the concessions are always busy!

I don't know about you, but the sight and sound of watching ~20 V10 powered F1 cars scream past at 200mph was plenty exciting for me

I even dug through my HDD and found some video clips I took when I was there (as you can see I've never been without some sort of camera all my life)

F1 is pretty sweet, stinks though that it's solely a European thing. On the other hand, we have good ol' 358 cid Iron American Big blocks going in circles for hours on end...MY personal favorite :D:D:D
