The front lens of my night vision camera was damaged by a rock chip. Its the metal cover with the circular tinted glass not the actual semi-spherical silver lens behind it.
ie. bad part exposed at front of car ---> | ( <--- good part connected to core internals and rest of camera
Been calling dealers all morning to get pricing for a new cover. Now i find out my particular camera has parts that can't be serviced, so I basically have to get a ~5k replacement thats not even new, it's an exchange.
I can't understand why they just can't order me a replacement for the part that is actually damaged..it makes no sense at all. One component of a device that can easily be removed but can't be replaced?
Hope is not lost for all night vision owners though. I guess GM has since tried to fix this by providing serviceable camera's for newer models because they now have "window kits/night vision camera protective kits " for some cameras ( GM 88890711 ). Unfortunately I'm not one of them...

I also see in the bulletin.....the price is 'only' $2600 exchange. Still hard to justify on a car that is losing $2000 in value every year.

would not your insureance cover it like a broken windshield?
They probably would but I havn't made a claim in a while and I'm finally starting to enjoy some reasonable car insurance rates.
Try to find out who manufactures the system for Cadillac..... and see if the part you need is available through them.
Or find a wrecked DTS somewhere?
It seems GM & AC Delco have a very strict process themselves but like you say maybee I can cut out the middle men... A wrecked DTS/DHS could also be an option.
