I tried doing a search but could not come up with anything. Has anyone had these codes before and if so what are they; P0455/P0449. It is a 2005 EXT with 72,000 on it. Thanks for any help I can get.

P0455 - Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (Gross Leak / No Flow)
P0449 - Evaporative Emission Vent Valve Solenoid Malfunction

I have a deville that has a similar emission code and its an EPA thing to keep gas fumes from escaping the fuel system. It doesn't harm the deville at all. As to your escalade, I have no idea if its going to hurt something or not, but probably worth asking someone about at AutoZone or somewhere similar.

Thanks, is anything of those hard to replace or is it something I can do at home.

P0455 indicates a gross leak in the evaporative system. The most common failure is the gas cap. The Cadillac dealer told me aftermarket gas caps don't work on Cadillacs. I tried one from the local auto parts store and cleared the code. It was a Murray ultra 6817 ($7.99) and said it meets or exceeds all OEM specifications. It didn't fix the problem, next I'm trying one from Cadillac ($22.00). They had to have my VIN to give me the right gas cap. I've noted several people have had to replace their vent valve. Some Chevy truck owners replaced theirs ($160) with one from a cheaper car like a Cobalt ($40). It also could be one of the vent lines coming from the fuel tank, the Canister that collects the fuel vapors leaking, or the purge valve.

So what ever happened, I just got the P0455 code today, would love to hear how you ultimately solved the problem.

I got a emissions code like that and replacing the gas cap fixed it
