Well you may know my dad has a '93 SedanDeVille, well anyways he said he would give it to me if I fixed the suspension. Fixing the suspension would cost me $900-$1,200(because I dont want to replace those shocks myself). The Dealer said 1000-1200 and a local tire/brake/suspension shop said they would put the monroes (keeping the ride level) for 900 or so.
Well anyways the car has a few problems and after about 1,700 it could be mechanicaly sound. Those other things that need fixed are exaust, a/c(not blowin), and the power steering whine(which someone here said it was because it was ingesting air). Anyways after all the repairs would I have a reliable car for several thousand more miles(it currently has 123,000)?
Would it also be worth possibly repainting and fixin a few other little things? I think it would look so dang good in black. With some new stock(mirror like) wheels. I have to fix it cosmeticaly if I get and keep it. My major concern is with the transmission it has doin that one thing the 4t-60Es can do. Something coming loose or whatever? I at least know I can get 200,000 out of the engine.
Or should I just tell my dad no and hold out for another car with lower miles. I dont want anythign other than a cadillac(just couldn't). I think there is alike a'92 Touring Sedan in town (black) I saw it once its probably tucked away in some old ladys garage with 3,000 miles.

Well, I am biased to '93 :)

I say go for it! I am betting the Service SSS light is on... but how does the car ride and drive? if it rides fine (dosn't bounce around over bumps) then leave it alone... my Service SSS light is on, but it rides fine. Also, there is a company that makes passive struts for the car (but still has the reair air levling struts) I think the kit sells for $400 or so...

exhaust... what is wrong? needs a full cat-back exhaust system? tell us what is wrong, maybe everything dosn't need to be replaced... I know I had to replace my cat. conv.

AC.... you said it isn't blowing... isn't blowing cold, or not blowing at all?

power steering... could either be low on fluid, or the pump is going bad... I replaced my pump becuase when the belt was off, you could actually wobble the pully shaft... not good... it was $70 for a new p/s pump

What is wrong with the tranny? the 4T60E is a very strong and durable trannny.... just do fluide and filter changes, and you should be fine...

I noticed these cars have the same stupid GM paint probably... the clear coat likes to fade... pisses me off... but besides that, the car is very good.... make sure the coolant changes with the pellets were done.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask, I will try my best to answer them for ya :)

"4T60E transmissions may drop out of drive while cruising, shift erratically, or have no second, third, or fourth gear because of a bad ground connection for the shift solenoids. Poor grounds also allow wrong gear starts." I have read that now and then. If it did happen would you think that it would be spendy? As for the paint the clear coat seems fine but there is some pealing on the bottom(below the doors) and in the rear wheel wells. It's currently white which does look good but black is my color for that car. The clear coat on the rims is kinda peeling and they are not as shinnay as new anymore. Wouldn't mind replacing them with something stock(new). Plus the top of the right fender has a crack(so replace) and my bro sideswiped the rear left fin and it took a little paint off and the emblem(which he put on the trunk and my dad drove off w/o seeing it there(goodbye emblem). All I know is there is a leak around the catalyst for the exhaust, so I assumed it could be wellded or something lol. I dont think its the cat itself maybe. As for the power steering it has a new motor its about 4 months old and has whinned from day one. Also there is plenty of fluid. The Air conditioning is cold but its not blowing hard at all its like the air trickles out. Someone on here told me about a pressure problem(some hose goin to the engine), I'll have to go find that thread.

A few other things I want done that I just remembered are new grill the current one the crome is tryin to come off(Ive glued it). Hood ornament was stolen. Would look really nice if I put some new light covers(the lights on the bumper in the front) they are turned all unclear and stuff. Fix one of the headlamps got hit by a rock. Fix a door seal. The drivers door panel with the handle and stuff is busted(was like that wen my dad got it @ 63,000). Its kind broke in two in the middle top part of it and the chrome part is coming off not pretty. Three more things maybe new floor mats and re-wrap the steering wheel. and the things where the seat controls and stuff are. The black paint has peeled off kinda on those(not the lower part but the top part of them).

Thanks for your help I know the car must sound bad hahaha, It aint to horrible though

Oh yeah the suspension is gone sloppy, floaty, and what not. So they do need replaced(shocks) my friend said he would help me do it. So I guess I wont take it to the shop after all. The SSS light is not on. That same friend wants to put in a new sound system for me which would be fine. Of course I pay. Maybe I can get my dad to get new tires and snows. Parents will pay the insurance, yay!

Oh and the brakes dont start stopin till you push the pedal in a little ways like about 2 in kinda(there is resistance but you push it in a ways). The brake fluid is at the minimum line.

The best thing do do for your deville is to fix all of your mechinical problems before you worry about paint and rims, thats the technique I reccomend to people and have used myself. I would look at fixing the brakes first it sounds like there is either air in you brake lines or you master cylinder and/or power brake booster is going bad.

lol, that thing with the tranny is something on edmonds.com or something like that... I have NEVER have any problem like that, and also never heard of anything like that.. don't worry about it...

These cars have a problem with the paint on the plastic trim on the bottom... the paint just peels... it is doing it on mine, I got a late model Buick "Dark Bronzemist Metallic" touch-up paint.. it dosn't perfectly match, isn't shiny, and isn't even on very good with the little inclded brush... but, atleast it blends far better then the ugly white plastic showing thru... I want to pull all the plastic trim and have it repainted the origanal color... but that will cost (alot) of money

those cosmetic things... that is nothing about the car... anyone could dent a car etc... overall it osn't sound bad at all...

if there is an exhaust leak aorund the cat... that is easy, and the whole exhaust dosn't need to be replaced :) just buy a patch kit at the store... $10

if the power steering pump was replace, and made the noise since then, it is probably a bad pump.. should have returned if since it had a warrantee....

under the hood, look for the blower motor... it is orund and agaisnt the fire wall, unscrew it, then get a vaccum (one that has a hose attatchment) and put it in the opening... use a flash light to help see... there is probably alot of leaves and other junk in there restricing the air flow... my Olds was the same way, after we cleaned allt he crap out (dead mouse, a nest etc...) it blew 3 times as hard... I would try that, especally if the car has been sitting.

about the parking lights.... mine were ywllowed too... I bought this special stuff at a car show, but I think Mothers or Meguires makes something similar.. it is plastic polish... I swear, it took all yellow out of the lenses, they are clear now.. the yellow haze is actually like a "rust" on the plastic.. clear it off, and it is clear again.

the brakes... the brake pedal on these cars stick out alot more then the gas pedeal, I notice mine has to be pushed in about 2" before the car shows any signs of slowing down... it has always been like that, nothing wrong either (I changed the pads recently) so I woudln't think that is anything wrong there...

that car dosn't sound bad at all... honeslty, if it was my car, I could have most those cosmetic things fixed in 2 relaxed days... not bad at all....

I have completly updated my sound system, and have now had every single part of my interrior apart, so if you need any help with anything, feel free to let me know...

How much brake fluid should I have in there? The car has never been parked under a tree for more than 2 hours but I will check out what you said about the a/c. You think there would be a way to change that brake pedal a bit? The guy who fixed the power steering couldnt get the right motor for it at first so there was one that didnt work right in there for about a month then he got the right kind of motor put it in and it whinned as bad as the other one. I guess I could live with replacing it again hahaha, get someone who knows how to do it. I definatley want to get the fender fixed you think I could swap it out myself before if ever I have it painted? How do you get to those lights on the bumper?

Oh by the way its only the vents that dont blow hard the floor part and the window defroster does good. Which also reminds me the rear window heat strips two are broken. Would the rear window just need replaced?
