All this to whore themselves out for a new movie. I got halfway through and turned it off.

Can I just contact that company to redo my entire car? I mean, if they can waste money on that crap...

I thought some of the 1st season episodes were good, but they went downhill pretty quickly. At one point they pulled the engine from a running '60-something Cadillac. They couldn't destroy the engine with sugar in the gas tank, so they put bleach in the oil pan. Who knew engines needed oil to keep from seizing? Not much of a myth there...

I'm not even going to watch this. I hate watching people in movies/TV destroy perfectly good cars, especially if they're irreplaceable classics. \

Don't tell Sandy....Agreed. His health is not good, and this would break his heart.

I will not watch the videos, but I recognize the dashboard of a C-body DeVille. Although Cruella is no longer mine, I still have great affection for that car (and will see her again in a couple of weeks).

I can't stand to see nice cars needlessly destroyed, especially older ones. Wrecking late 70s Chrysler cop cars on the Dukes of Hazzard is one thing. Destroying Imperials and Cadillacs is quite another.

Unfortunately I saw this episode. It was disgusting to say the least. Both Imperials were '64s, like the Green Hornet in the movie. They shot one with automatic riffles and buried the other one and blew it up. They also cut a '91-'92 C-body Fleetwood in half to see if it would still be drivable. Heart breaking and appalling.

That's cool, Ian.

I just can't get into the show. The UK version puts me to sleep, Clarkson is a snobby ******* who probably wouldn't be doing ANYTHING if not for that show, the other two hosts are just boring, and we all know who the Stig is so who cares anymore? They'll fire him and hire someone else to keep the "mystique".

I don't even want to bother with the US one.

Yea, if you aren't already watching the US one I wouldn't really bother. I watched since the first episode so I just tune in now to see what they're doing. I've never really been into UK Top Gear either. It is a little over the top for my taste as I prefer geek car shows like Motorweek, Car and Driver TV, and the stuff on Speed and Spike.

"Top Gear" UK is auto entertainment, with a week premise, three poor comedians and bad writers. Only occasionally is their anything of interest. For my comedy needs I prefer something with something more than sophomoric humor and three twits each vying with the other to seem funny!

It does say something about the level of the lower reaches of British humour, but as a basis for an American version it doesn't seem promising. I watched the first show, and subsequent shows until I just couldn't tolerate the drivel any longer. While I find that corn phart on Motorweek to be barely tolerable, I do watch the show for information on new cars. I have to say their Female reporters have the longest learning curve with the poorest results in broadcast history!!

They're great comedians! They're terrible journalists. :)

I'm sorry, but that episode with Clarkson driving the Reliant Robbin had me nearly falling over laughing. Just seeing him rolling over and skidding sideways down the road in a car that stupid... that was priceless :histeric:

I don't find the show to be really informative for anything, just entertaining. And after watching a few seasons you realize that Jeremy is intentionally playing the doof (or maybe he is actually, but either way...) so it's even funnier when his projects fail miserably lol

That was one of the funniest things I've ever seen on a car-related TV show.

orconn
12-20-10, 09:01 PM
Yeah, that was funny for the first few capsizes, but as it went on one wondered why anyone would let someone as stupid as the featured driver continue to drive the thing. And, of course there was the usual English snobbery toward the working class folks of Northands!

The best part of a joke is when it goes too far, and once its gone too far, it keeps going.

I love how casual Clarkson is once the car is rolled over, and how he just nonchalantly drives off as if nothing happens, especially on the BBC news clip.
