: Cold Start Problem

12-09-10, 10:55 PM
I've taken my 2005 STS to two dealerships trying to solve this cold start problem I am having, to no avail. When I attempt to start my car when it's cold, it runs very rough for about 20 seconds and if I don't flutter the accelerator it will stall. After 30 seconds or so, it runs fine. Has anyone had this issue and if so, please tell me the solution so I can relay it to the so called expert mechanics? Anny help will greatly appreciated.

Any non-OEM parts? Change ANYTHING lately?

It's a 2005 with 33,000 miles. There isn't any non-OEM parts used on the vehicle. Whenever the car needs service, I go to the dealership because I have an extended warranty.

The V8 is engineered to start and run smoothly at -27F with no pre-heat. With the factory block heater the car should start and run at -40F and as soon as it starts you should be able to take it to full throttle and it should run smoothly. If it won't do that something is wrong. This info is straight from a long-time GM Powertrain engineer.

It's a V-8. It finally threw a code and the bottom line is they replaced the computer, I think they called it the ECM. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that that was the problem.

It's been a month since they replaced the ECM and we've had twenty inches of snow since then and cold. The car is starting and running fine now. Thanks for all the suggestions. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!
