I'm getting ready to pick up the 2008 STS that i just signed papers on and a forum member sent me over the warranty work report on the vehicle. There is a good amount of warranty work that has been done. Is this a good or bad thing??

Looks like that car rolled off the assembly line on a Friday before a holiday weekend. The good news is you know what's been fixed. On the other hand .... the "tendency" depicted in all the warranty work could be a bad thing. With that said, I'm not sure how I would interpret it. I'm leaning towards, ....run if it's not too late. In my state, I think you would have three days after signing a contract to back out of it (maybe it's only one day).

I'm sure others here can chime in with their perspective.

i signed the papers thursday night but not the financing paperwork, didnt give a deposit and havent delivered my car to them. Supposed to choose the financing today and drop off down payment and my trade in. However Chris from this forum sent me this..

WOW !!!! I'm not a Cadillac mechanic but it seems like a ton of serious work has been done on this car. In June the car had 55.5k miles on it. How many miles does it now have? I believe you're out of warranty mileage wise and out of luck on an extended GM warranty. In my opinion I would look for another car as I have a feeling you are going to have on-going issues with this one!! Always have the selling dealer run the vin which will show what work has been done. Any dealer can do this. Good luck and keep us posted.

it has 59k miles as of now on the car lot.

Unless you can purchase a comprehensive extended warranty, I would walk away! Just curious-is this car at a Cadillac dealership and how much are you paying for it?

it's at a chevy dealership and paying $22,600 out the door. figured this was a good price seeing black on black is fetching 1500 - 2000 more at cadillac dealerships because of color.

hmmmm...obviously it's your call but I would still walk. I'm wondering if the Chevrolet dealer picked it up at auction. If you want, send me the vin and I will look into it for you.

I'd run away form this ASAP. It's a mystery of life but somehow there are lemons out there. How can one car have so many problems and others same model no problems? Either this car is trouble or the dealer who worked on it worked over the warranty company and GM. I had a dealer do that once. Gouged GM for everything they could.

BTW you can take the VIn to any GM service department and they can give you a print out of any and all work done on any GM car. Pull you vin give it to a Cadillac service manager and watch his face when the report comes up. Good indication!!! Good luck.

the service guy at a local caddi shop said it's illegal for him to tell me what the vehicle was in for service prior to my purchase.. This sounds like a load of crap.

The in service date of this car was 3-18-08 (STS 1SB) and the selling dealer was Weil Cadillac-Hummer in Libertyville, Illinois-(847-362-4100). The car was a "retail lease" vehicle. You might want to call the selling dealer and see what they have to say regarding all the work. Per my friend at the dealership, who gave me the information on "your" car, he feels it was purchased at auction by the Chevy dealer- though he cannot verify same. He would also run and look for something else. I hope this is of help to you. Keep us posted........

update...

spoke to original dealership, service guy there was very down to earth. explained the motor work where the cam shafts in this yr of car was designed poorly and moved back and forth thus wearing out the chains/guides/etc.. all 3 cam chains and guides were replaced and shims installed so this shouldnt occur for some time down the road. Tire pressure sensor is common due to aluminum wheels corroding and not keeping them clean. other small items he stated are caddi owners just replacing any wear item that is showing the slightest bit of wear. He said there isnt anything what jumps out at him saying " dont buy this car " he did say to buy the extended warranty from the dealership where the work will be done, not the dealer where your buying the car.

thanks for the help!

Never heard about this issue with the 3.6L V6 DI engine? Has anyone else?

Seem like the dealership was redoing a lot of bad work or doing the work for their benefit. If not run, don't walk away..............

I don't really believe in 'lemons' but...

Unless you have good reason to believe differently, this car was used hard. I think the price belongs on an outstanding STS. Is this really the one for you?

A lot of 2008's should be coming off lease in the next few months. Wait for a low mileage CPO.

I have a feeling the car is now in your driveway....but after a quick look on the internet of cleveland cadillac dealers and eBay, there are quite a few 08's with extremely low mileage (low 20k-30k)with your equipment for the same price that you paid-and a few black over black. good luck and remember that buying a car is usually an impulse buy!

I suspect you are correct about the car being in the driveway. "Been there done that!" If so, I hope you have good luck with it.
