: Possible Barn find?

I've got this "local" :bonkers: buzzing in my ear that he has 2 1945 Cadillacs in a barn and he has to get rid of them. He said they were 10 cylinder engines, but I know they are most likely 12's. I personnally don't like this characteor, as I think he is a tolal opportunist, who thought I would jump right on them. I'm only passively interested. He's being secretive and hasn't offered to allow me to veiw them and won't tell me where they are. He was thinking he could get $5000 from the junk yard.
He first started talking to me back around Thankgiving. He was going to get pics for me, but he never came up with any.
If anyone on this site has any interest, let me know. Perhaps I could light a fire under him if he thinks someone would throw money at them.

I may be interested...would need to see pics and more info for sure but a 40's caddy would be fun. My ultimate goal is one from each decade. haha

He is thinking wrong, by more than a factor of ten.

Two points: 1) there's no such thing as a 1945 Cadillac (unless it's literally a tank), and 2) Cadillac discontinued engines greater than 8 cylinders after 1940. I'd steer well clear of this shyster.

Well in that case I would mess with the Guy. See what strange BS he can come up with have fun with him if he likes pulling your strings pull right back. Lol

Thanks,
I just called and told him I may have someone interested in the cars and he bit at the bait. I now find that the car's years were a were a guestamet. The fellow who wants to unload the cars is the owner of the property, who has been storing the cars for a freind who turned them over to the owner.
The guy who's been talking to me is now willing to bring me up to the property and allow me to take pics. I'll see what happens. :lildevil:

Indeed. This could prove quite interesting.

In fact, it already has.

Well the guy was supposed to call me this A.M., but failed. It snowed last night, pehaps that had something to do with it. I'll call him tommorrow.

Basically your computer opened a rift in the space time continuum which allowed you to post at 2.5 times the speed of light, thus enabling you to post two things at the same time and avoid the forum's 30 second rule. It's the same principle that prevents you from deleting the recycle bin on your computer.

Basically what I figured. Never post while charging the laptop from your main alternator at the same time as it charges Nuclear Proton Accelerators, Kinetic Energy Cannons, a Railgun and a cooler for your beer. Double posts WILL occur.

Update: Schedule changed to Sunday A.M. LOL:rolleyes: I can't wait. He's the type that raves about his cherry ride that is no better than a 5.

We should start a pool. You have to pick the year of the car, and what the guy asks for it.

^I put one Mercedes on 1946 (possibly a series 62 club coupe) for the nominal asking price of $2,564.

Assuming the guy can even tell what a 40s Cadillac looks like, they'll likely be a couple of 1941 or 1947 Series 62 sedans, both rusted out beyond all hope.

I put my money on it actually being from the 50's...and I bet he'll be asking $6,000 since he thinks the junkyard will pay $5,000

Funny Outsider, I was also thinking 50's...specifically a '51 with an asking price of 7k.

Stingroo

Nah... my guess is it isn't even a Cadillac. Watch it be like a 55 Chevy or something.

That last part goes along with my thinking. I'll bet they turn out to be a couple of 37's. I think Continentals, or Lincons had 12 cylinder engines. See if he dodges out Sunday.

True, Connies had 12s through the late 40s.

$5000 from a junkyard??? $50, IF they drove into the yard. $0 more likely.
10 cylinder engine??? "Hey, BillyJoBob, lookie alla them there wires, must be like ten of 'em."
1945 build date??? "And now, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat - heeeeyyy Presto!!"
AND he didn't call you back??? Yup, I'm real surprised. More surprised if you EVER hear back from him.

most junkyards will buy cars for 100-200 unless they also buy scrap then they pay per pound and have scales

My step son informed me last week that the yards were paying $1000 for large cars and trucks. The price of metal fluctuates with the demand.

It also varies by location and weight. It was like $11 per lb

Dissappointing. Got a whole new story Sunday A.M. Seems the property is owned by 2 brothers. The other brother owns the cars and will not part with them. Couldn't get there for pics. Would have liked to get pics, just to confirm what years they are.
