2006 STS 1SG with
BF Goodrich g-Force Sport 225/45 ZR18 95W BSW Summer tires
and just passed state inspection(PA) with 38,000 on the clock.
Was told next inspection I would need new tires.
Question, I hate the noise these tires makes on any road surface and they are useless in the snow.
Should I buy tires now that are less noisy and better in the snow or try to get the most mileage out of tires that I hate.
I am leaning toward new tires and would like recommendations as to what tires to get and how much would they cost?

Life is too short to wear old shoes. You have lots of great choices. Tire Rack has a decent aid to chosing tires that are right for you. Each person can have different desires for the best tires for their own car.

For me that would be a "no brainer".

In light of echase's comment:

Never skimp on your shoes, tires or mattress .....

Thanks for the input-I had already checked Tirerack before you responded.
I inputed my car info and it seems that OEM for my 1SG w/TPMS is
Front 235/50-18
Rear 255/45-18
yet on my door jam tire lists 225/45-ZR18 as OEM
This is an Ultra Hi Performance tire rated good to 148 MPH.
I will never drive that fast so I may get a tire with a lesser speed ratings.

If Illinois had state inspections....it would be great. I see stuff out there that should be junked.

I...checked Tirerack...for my 1SG...
Front 235/50-18
Rear 255/45-18
yet on my door jam tire lists 225/45-ZR18 as OEM

I'm surprised at your finding because the tire tag really should be the tires as it left the factory. I don't think those are typical 1SG OEM. 18" wheels usually came staggered as quoted by TireRack.

I just went with 255/45/18 on all fours.

Thanks for your input. I also checked goodyears website and it listed OEM same as tirerack.
I got this car from someone who shops auctions for cars that need a little fix up.
He said that he put new rubber on when I got it. That was at 23,000 miles and if inspection shop is right about needing new tires next inspection and factoring in 10,000 miles a year as average mileage then these tires will need replacement at about 25,000 miles. Not very good mileage.
But how do you explain the door jam listing 225/45-ZR18 as OEM?

I just replaced all 4 of my tires on my '05 with Goodyear Eagle GT's and its a pretty smooth and quite ride. IMO.

You can also go 275/40/18 (at least in the rear).
I have a pair of Nitto Invos in that size in the back.
VERY smooth & quiet!
So far I really like them.

Just an update, I was mistaken in the size tires that I have, they are actually
255/45 ZR 18. On all four wheels.
