View Full Version : Seatbelt refuses to cooperate with me! LOL Speedingpenguin 09-19-04, 06:44 PM Okay its starting to piss me off now, so I'm gonna post!
97 catera for those who dont know
Lately, the drivers seatbelt is giving me a hard time....i'll get in the car, pull on the seatbelt (not yank, but slowly pulllllll), and it will lock up or whatever.....let it go back in a little bit, try again, and sometimes it will go out a little further and sometimes it stops the same exact place as before. Lately its been taking me 3-5 minutes to put my seatbelt on because of this (no joke). I dont know whats causing it but its annoying as hell....I've tried pulling from different angles, yanking it, pulling slowly, etc.....sometimes it even refuses to go back in! I dunno whats causing this! Vesicant 09-19-04, 07:19 PM Beats me... maybe the locking mechanism is worn out or something to that effect :bonkers: elwesso 09-19-04, 07:43 PM The seatbelts are covered under DOT lifetime warranty... Take to dealership for free fixing..... Speedingpenguin 09-19-04, 07:56 PM really?
damnit, if only the valve cover gaskets were the same way, LOL It sounds like it could be the little black plastic latch that you can see when you open the driver's door, it is located on the frame of the car. (even our 1980 Pontiac has this) The idea of these latches is when you open the door, the shoulder belt retracts to make exiting easier. Maybe it's jamming up or the latch mechanism is worn?
I'm 90% sure your car would have this retractor latch as it seems most cars do. ummm....
ya got a pic of what your talking about? ummm....
ya got a pic of what your talking about?
Sorry no pic.
It may not be your problem, but there is a way to test it. Open your driver's door and when you see the steel round "post" that you door latch goes into, it should be very near that. I can't say for certain because I know nothing about Cateras except my neighbour just bought one and loves it.
Simple test. With the door shut and yourself strapped in, adjust the seatbelt so that it is about 5 inches from your chest, then open the door. The shoulder belt should snap against your chest?
Keep in mind, I'm not entirely sure your car has this feature, my 1991 does though. On some newer cars, you cannot adjust the shoulder belt a few inches from your chest for comfort while driving. Some belts retain a constant tension against you for maximum safety, and I find these a bit annoying at times. I'm not sure what yours has, but your problem could just be the rollers binding or sticking. Jose_in_a_Cadi 09-20-04, 07:44 PM Okay its starting to piss me off now, so I'm gonna post!
