Hi all,

I'm wondering what the OEM tire size is on the 17" wheels which come off the 2001 STS? Is it 235/55/17? I'm picking up winter tires....would I be able to get away with 235/50/17 or 235/45/17? Would those tire sizes make noises, etc. I just want to triple check before buying...I'm leaning towards the 45 profile just to give it a sportier look and I found a nice used set...

Thanks

235/55/17, depending on speed limiter setting either an H or Z tire.

Get into www.tirerack.com and look up the closest tire to your originals. Write down the rim width and outside diameter. Now look at your possible replacements - compare specs. As long as the outside diameter is within about 0.4" and the rim width is within 0.5" you should have no (or little) speedo error and no wheelwell rubbing problems. If treadwidth on the new tires is more than about 0.75" wider, you might have rubbing problems on tight turns.

Better to stay with the 235/55/17's if the 50's or 45's fall outside the above. (45's are pushing the envelope here..............)
