So I recently got into a friendly but heated debate about the differences between my 2002 Escalade and the 2003-2006 Escalades. I was curious as to if anyone had any feedback about the list I came up with so far.

-Steering Wheel (Including Radio Control Buttons)

-Climate Control (Uses knobs instead of a digital interface, but is still automatic)

-Subwoofer (Located in rear cargo area instead of under center console)

-Center Console (Different shape not allowing drop fit of navigation or Heated/Cooled cup holders)

-GPS/OnStar Antenna - The 2002 uses the shorty antenna mounted on the left rear glass for analog OnStar communication. (Not sure if this includes GPS capabilities or not) I believe the '03 and above uses the "dome" antenna on the front passenger roof.

2003 got HID low beams and the 2WD got the upgraded traction control feature are two things not on your list that come to mind.

Good call sir, very good call. I completely forgot about the HID's, because I'm so used to my after-market ones. I think I also read somewhere that the traction control for both 2WD and AWD was upgraded to include all wheels instead of just rear?

All good ones! My 02 has the roof mounted cell antennae, even if its analog. Here are some changes that comes to mind:

-No turn signal indicators in the mirrors.
-Passenger side door handle has no key switch to unlock the door.
-There's no key operated lock-unlock of the rear glass panel.
-Different cover on the engine (intake).
-Instrument panel different.
-The pattern of the seat isn't the same.
-Communications between different modules of the truck is different.
-The driver info center is located in the center console, as a stand alone unit.
-OEM navigation not available.
-OEM entertainment (TV) for the rear passengers not available.
-Better looking tailpipe in 02 lol!
-Not other wheel options than the chrome 17's.
-Rear climate controls are operated from the front, moved to rear passengers 03+.

I know these all have been mentioned before on other threads, but wiki has an excellent description of differences as well...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_Escalade

There was no 2001 year Escalade sold for the 2001 model year. The lineup went directly from model year 2000 to 2002. This was done by introducing the 2002 model in January 2001 while still selling the present production 2000 model year car. Rear-wheel drive was standard, as was a 5.3 L V8, with all-wheel drive and the special high-output Vortec 6.0 L V8 engine as options. All models (except for the EXT) began seating 8 people.

The "StabiliTrak" stability control system was upgraded to a four-wheel version for 2003 and power-adjustable pedals were added. For 2004, 20-inch chrome wheels were offered, and XM Satellite Radio, second-row bucket seats, and a tire pressure monitoring system were made standard on all Escalades except the EXT. The 5.3 L engine was dropped for 2005 and the OnStar system was upgraded. Also in 2005, the Platinum edition was introduced at the price of $71,025; it featured heated and cooled cup holders, 20 inch chrome wheels, moon roof, three DVD screens, and chrome accents on the steering wheel and grille.

Engines

* 2002–2003 5.3L LM7 Vortec V8, 285 horsepower (213 kW)
* 2004–2006 5.3L LM7 Vortec V8, 295 horsepower (220 kW)
* 2002–2006 6.0L LQ9 HO Vortec V8, 345 horsepower (257 kW)

The HO Vortec takes premium fuel while the other two engines can take a lower grade.

Specification Levels

* 2002–2006 Cadillac Escalade
* 2002–2006 Cadillac Escalade EXT
* 2003–2006 Cadillac Escalade ESV
* 2004–2006 Cadillac Escalade ESV Platinum

Both of these are some of the best things about the '02 I think lol the engine cover is pretty sick and the tailpipe definitely is a nice touch =)

Wow - can't believe no one mentioned anything about the size of the stereo. 02 isn't double din like the 03+

Wow good catch, I had no idea. Crutchfield lists it as an irregular dash opening, needing a special integration kit.

This list is becoming extremely eye opening, I had no idea there was so many differences.

The '02's had a satin finish on all emblems while 03-06 used shiny chrome, and the the console lid locks on the 02 and it had interior lights in the front foot wells.

My underhood light is the only thing I cannot get working on my truck. Tried replacing the bulb, still nothing. Is it fused by itself somewhere? Or is there a sensor or something that tells the light to turn on when the hood is opened?

If I'm not mistaken, I also believe the center console in the 02 has a different method of opening than the 03+ I think there's a lid opening from rear to front in the 02, and the 03+ just has the one opening that goes from driver's side to pass's

Your right about the center console. In the 02's there are two compartments. One on top that fold back and the main compartment that folds towards the passenger. I believe in the 03+ they got rid of the top compartment.

Very interesting thread. I never new there were so many differances. I just bought an 02 ext and really love it. Cant say I would change anything. It does have 22 inch wheels and a billet grill. The all should have that. What a differance they make.

don't forget the widows regulator buttons changed, and heated seat buttons changed '02 seats heat both bottom and back with only high and low. '03 you can choose back or both with low med high, folding mirror button location changed, '02 is on the bezel, '03 is located in the mirror adjustments. Sorry if I was a little off with something.

Gauge cluster is different in the 02 then 03-06s. Platinum 03-06s have different gauges as well.

03-06 platinums have air conditioned seats as well as heated seats.

02s only have a bench row they don't have captain seats in second row.

XM went from analog to digital from 2003 to 2004there is no thing as analog satitlate radio now the onstar system change wsn't until later but the module along with the antenna is different between the 02' and 03's and up and the radio is single din in 02 where 03 and up is double din and i wish i had the footwell lights which the 02's had and 03's and up don't have also the sub both got moved and is smaller 03 and up where as the 02's had a 8 inch in the rear plus the midrange drivers in the center on the 02's which the 03's don't have thanks to the relocation of the sub and the radio and amp is both tied into the data bus on the 03's which the 02's don't have it setup like that.

Do the 2004's have the digital or analog Onstar?

the cadillac man
01-19-12, 11:56 PM
analog on star from factory upgrades was for 03 and up as they were analog unfortunately the 02's didn't get the upgrade due to differences on both the module setup and the data bus of the truck but that is something i don't have to worry about as i have a 03 and it is upgradable to the digital onstar.

So 2002 has a bigger sub in the center console, nice! I feel like this thread should be stickied!

The sub for the 02 is a 8inch under the left rear trim panel and mid range horn drivers under the center console
the sub for the 03-06 is a 6.5 dvc sub under the center console and the mid range horn drivers were dropped

Look under the front of the console with a bright light and verify for sure
Most car audio sites clam the ext doesn't have a sub(which I find a bit crazy)
