The diagram looks a little scary, but it's really easy to do - line up up the marks on the crank and idler gears across from each other, then put the marks on the cams at 12:00. Just a couple thoughts:

1. After you have the 2 lower marks lined up, get the cams in roughly the correct position BEFORE you install the heads - this is an interference engine...hopefully I don't have to elaborate?

2. I suggest you use a speed square on top of the heads to make sure the marks on the gears are at 12:00 - I suggest you don't just eyeball it. Use an open end wrench on the square cast into the cam near the gear end.

3. Be sure to re-check the timing AFTER you install the tensioners and pull the grenade pins to release and extend the tensioner pistons.

I had trouble getting the chains installed on mine. I had to remove one of the cams to get the chain on then retorque it down.
