That's awesome. I've never owned one, but I test drove one. It was a '97 V6 Camaro that was RHD. I thought it was the weirdest thing ever - especially since they were sold here. It was cool as hell, but I couldn't convince mom to let my then sixteen year old self buy a Camaro - even if it was a V6.

Canada seems to be much more lenient on imported cars, maybe because of its proximity to the US. Lots of Nissan Skylines find their way into the Canadian market.

A friend of mine bought a Mercedes "S" class from Saudi Arabia, it was OK aside from smelling bad ... we called it "Old Camel Breath!"

That's true. When I lived in Maine, a guy that my dad worked with had a home up in Caribou, which isn't all that far from New Brunswick. Occasionally you would see R34's roaming the streets, and a host of other interesting Japanese import vehicles. MK IV Supras, Corolla AE86's, Toyota Soarers (not their Lexus counterparts) and many many more. It was pretty cool.

I kind of wish I could import a Toyota Chaser. Turbo, AWD, and looks like an Acura Legend.

Edit: Image was missing.

That car reminds me of Serious Cat. It is somehow 1/3 Acura TL, 92-97 Seville and Toyota Camry.

I've driven a RHD 2nd gen MR2 a little bit. Really weird to get used to, especially shifting with your left hand. That one was a bit trickey because it has that "wide" feel to it, cause its so wide and you sit so low, kind of the same feeling as a Corvette. Also weird that somebody would go through the hassle of importing such car, as there was no difference between the Japanese and US turbocharged models. Anyways, I could never get comfortable hustling that car on a public road because of the RHD and that "its too wide for its lane" sort of feel.

An outfit I worked for had a couple of Toyota forklifts that were never made for the U S market. It was such a PIA getting parts for them that we finally just parked them on the back lot and let them sink into the ground.

I worked for a Grey Market importer in the 80's. I did own a couple of them myself and got to drive damn near every Grey Market car (that was worth driving) from that era.

I had a 1984 Mercedes 500SEL grey market car. It was originally a German market car, and was brought to the US through Mexico in the 80s. It had smaller bumpers than the US market car, and it looked noticeably better as a result. It also had glass electrically leveling lights and the euro rear light for inclement weather.I think it needed to have side impact door beams and catalytic converters (it was a 2 into 1 system) installed to make it US legal, and the headlights also had sealed beam lights inside the glass housing, which was not original or well done. Compared to my 79 Coupe Deville it was too expensive to maintain so I donated it. But, it was an interesting and fun car to own.

MBZ of NA would not allow them to be imported directly into the US, so we ordered them shipped to Mexico then flew them to LA otherwise the factory could not sell them to us knowing they were headed for the US.

I haven't owned one, but I remember riding in my friend's 6.9 Mercedes that he got thru the gray market channels. Go here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_450SEL_6.9) for Wiki's summary. It was quite the machine for its day with a very "torquey" motor.

I had a metallic red 1970 6.3 for a brief moment. Got to drive a 6.3 limo a couple of times, also drove the 6.9 Turbo, so much torque you didn't realize there was lag until the BOOST plastered you to the seat back.

Two of the best vehicles ever to come through grey-market channels, so good in fact that they both eventually became officially imported (for a time)...
