: aftermarket backup camera

tried installing a aftermarket camera to the factory nav.
found instructions on a older post here that shows the wires behind
the pass kick panel. everything works but im having weird problems with
the camera. the picture is very unstable and jumpy and then the screen
goes black and them comes back. strange part is if you walk up to camera or
point it at the bumper its ok. its like if it dosent have a fixed object close
it goes crazy. its a cheap ebay camera i had laying around.
any ideas?

Go with a high end camera, I did...great resolution night and day... Mine was Pioneer, don't remember the model because I did it three years ago...but with such a large Nav screen go with a good quality camera

thanks gonna try a name brand camera next. i would prefer to go oem
buy its a ext and the oem cam is in the tailgate handle. the tailgate handle
is also part of the spoiler so id have to change all that ,paint it . did you
wire it to the wire behind kick panel also ?

No didn't wire in the kick panel as the harness was difficult and expensive to source from GM...so decided to do some research and spent the cash to go with a better camera attached to my Locpick...my GM/Cadillac dealer didn't have the harness and the wait was too long to get it...

ok thanks, just worried if my wiring is faulty, i connected a cig lighter plug
to see if i had a bad ground or something and its still doing it. only
possibility now is the camera ( which i think it is) or the rca plug i put on
the factory connector as per the post on here.

I wasn't aware that you could use an aftermarket camer with the factory nav. How is that working out? What additional parts were needed?
