Question for any of you guys. My fuel pump on my 02 Escalade just went bad. My mechanic is saying the fuel pump is $460. Does this sound right? Sounds a bit pricey no?

The part is about $200 in some parts stores so $460 sounds about right

The fuel pump went out on my 03' Hummer H2 (which I traded for my 04' Escalade). The total bill from the Cadillac/Hummer dealership was $780. Just fornunately, I had purchased a warranty when I bought the Hummer and my part of the bill was 92 bucks and 32 bucks for my part of the wrecker bill. So, yes, it can cost that much. Of course, I had a new fuel filter put on at the same time.

Great thanks guys the total bill was $460 for the pump and $200 labor. so $660 it was. My mechanic told me it may have been caused from letting the fuel run to close to empty? And that you should never let it go that low

Glad you got going again.

Gas is the fuel pump coolant like antifreeze is for the engine/transmission. When it goes below a 1/4 of a tank some think fuel pump damage is occurring. Clogging fuel filters that cost $10-$15 for our 2003 can raise the pump head pressure causing it to work harder and longer therefore generating more heat/damage.

I just bought a new fuel pump from rock auto and paid 160.00. Same part number as the one at Autozone. 02 Escalade

There are many fuel pump repair kit on Ebay. The price - from 50 USD per unit. No need to buy the compelte set including fuel level sensor! - just fuel motor and 2 filters! I bought previous month and already install by myself...

I just replaced mine on my '03, cost me $80 on ebay and no complaints yet. Its been about 4 months now. If you diy you will save yourself alot of clams, and the job is not hard. Took me about 1 1/2 hours to remove and about another hour to replace once i got the new one. $80 plus free shepping, I dont think you are going to get a better deal anywhere else. Good Luck

I had mine replaced at least 6 times under warranty. They replaced is with a $250 or so after market pump, and they blew out within weeks. They finally replaced it with an AC delco, and it has been working like a champ ever since. Make sure you replace the fuel filter
