figure i would post this since i think not many people have seen one of these. i apologize if the pic is too big.

anyway i quit my job to go work at this rich guys car museum, not open to the public so i didnt have to deal with people, anyway it didnt work out, 3 days i was bored to death had no work to do so i quit and went back to bodywork

one of his many cars he has a 95 fleetwood limo he got from a funeral home. chrome lady on the hood, vogue tires with the nice looking chrome wheels and its hard to see but it has a snap off ragtop.

he has a few nice cadillacs. right behind that one is an older cadillac limo...has 145 cars in the museum, drives all of them and is not open to the public. crazy huh, he has some really rare cars too

The "older" one is a '59. Only one of, if not the most iconic Cadillacs ever...

CadillacPimpinNOLA
10-25-10, 07:17 PM
as far as cadillacs, he has those 2, an 85 eldorado barritz convertable, a 54 eldorado convertible something like only 184 left in the world, i think thats it for cadillacs. he has damn near everything except Porsche and Lamborghini. heres from catwalk just 1 section of the museum

behind that back wall is another huge area, and the wall on the right you go through to another smaller area...black car on the left is the 54 eldorado

So there is some rich dude, somewhere out there, who has a private garage of 145 classic cars, and he is willing to pay for someone to be in his garage, doing nothing, except appreciating his cars, all day... Where is this magical place; I would be willing to quit my life to live there.

ok the guys name is Henry Shane, hes 73 now and has said 8 years ago he is no longer interested in making anymore money. he is a real estate tycoon, commissioner of the new orleans superdome, on the board at a major hospital. he has like 10,000+ rentals, his main real estate company of 4 he partners with 1st lake real estate. dude has money out his ass

the problem with the job is i hit a slow patch at work and i work on commission. so i got the job at the museum, i was taking a small pay cut and gonna give up my health insurance but i figured it might work out. problem is the owner always wants you working. if he sees you not working he takes not and then the manager gives you those talks. anyway i blazed through my work 1st and it was hard to find something to do. second day i woorked like a snail trying to prolong the work and i still finished early. everytime i asked for something to do, the manager couldnt find anything. BUT YOU CANT STAND AROUND. i woulda swept the floors if they werent polished. anyway it wasnt working out for me so i went back to my old job

ill post some pics in a lil bit

^At that point, you just carry a broom where ever you go and hide from the boss whenever possible. And whenever someone asks you what you were doing, you just say you cleaning up in the other room (always in the other room), but never give specifics about what you cleaned or where.

But for those parties interested in knowing, a quick search claims the museum is called Henry Shane's Cars of Yesteryears museum, located at 4625 Fairfield St. in Metairie Louisiana. Though the museum is officially closed to the public, it does open for certain charity and fundraiser events; apparently there is an annual auction held in November, which includes a tour of the museum- (504) 830-3700 is the contact number and the next event is on the 17th.

CadillacPimpinNOLA

anyway he has a place in Metairie, La called "cars of yesteryear" sign and all on the building but its not open to the public, they even have a couple garages built on where they service and maintain the cars. the roof in the place is actually wood all the stuff that looks like metal bracing is wood. hurricane katrina dropped the roof and tore a bunch of cars up. you can also see he has tons of signs, bikes on the roof, pedal cars, and he has tons of old games and toys

the only way to get in the place is by invitation, BUT you still have to pay. $100 per person. he holds fundraisers and all the money he donates to one of his charities so its a win-win

i didnt get pics of everything and some are blurry

he has a few other cars in some garages outside like a 87 monte carlo aero coupe and an old belair and some jaguar that needs full resto. has some campers and big trucks. 2 lincoln limos 1 is fitted with a bently gt kit front and rear. plus he has some newer cars like mercedies that he keeps at his house to drive around.

he wants some kind of 70's ferrari but to find one in good shape he said will cost around 11 million so hes looking for a replica. and every car in there is hooked to a battery tender ready to go. he does drive all of them

Fantastic diversity of the pictures, and learned a bit (I had never heard of that one of a kind '54 red convertible with the "B" emblem, I'm also much too lazy to go back one page!).

Hemmings Sports & Exotic recently had an article with 3 microcars - a Messerschmitt, Vespa, and Subaru 360 (a Gogomobile was going to participate, but ended up breaking down IIRC). That was how I first learned Vespa made more than scooters.

The American Bantam was the smallest car produced during its day. Even smaller than the miniscule pre-war Crosleys!

There's some finds there to be sure, reminded me of going to the LeMay Museum - so many cars owned by someone who obviously has a passion for all things automotive!

OK, I can find absolutely NO info on the 1954 Broadmoore convertible. Was it a handbuilt car? - I know some people were building their own roadsters after WWII. Prototype that never made it to production?

Inquiring minds must know!

OK, I can find absolutely NO info on the 1954 Broadmoore convertible. Was it a handbuilt car? - I know some people were building their own roadsters after WWII. Prototype that never made it to production?

Inquiring minds must know!

The red "Broadmoor" convertible is actually a cutomized Muntz Jet. The Muntz Jet was built in Los Angeles in the early fifties and used a chassis design and built by Kurtis Kraft (designer of several successful Indy cars in the forties and fifties) abd used Cadillac powertrains. "Mad Man Muntz" was a wll known and successful merchandiser of television sets and other home appliances in Southern California where he was a local celebrity (along with the famous "Cal Worthington") for his extensive television advertising. His success in market the "Muntz TV" funded the developemnt of this early fifties "sportscar." The Muntz Jet roadster was said to be a fast, for its' day, and relatively good handling roadster. Muntz apparently ran onto rough financial times and production of the Muntz Jet car ceased production after only small number were produced.

The Broadmoor convertible pictured in this thread appears to be a Muntz Jet with the rear fender skirts reoved, standup tailights, a corny hood ornament (the Jet had no hood ornament) and a gold "B" fastened to its stock Muntz grill. None of these in anyway improved on the original design which was quite clean and attractive for its' day.

I remember seeing a, very few, of these Muntz Jet roadsters around Pasadena and Hollywood in the early fifities. What I have said here is completely from memory, a more definitive description and better info can be had by Googling "Muntz Jet." Hope this helps, Bill!

you good man, this is the only 4 pics i have of the car, i took a pic of the sign but the light in the particular area of the museum coming through the roof and a camera phone this pic is really blurry...basically its as above a 54 muntz jet car, cadillac engine ect. car had an electrical fire and was stored in Tennessee for a long time before a lein got it auction to someone who had the pontiff brothers in challmette, La restored it, as the story goes since the original owner always mentioned the broadmoor hotel in colorado they payed for the restoration.

Tha6t GT40 is really a gem! The Auburn Speedster behind looks to me to be a LebN Cray (sp?) '70-80's vintage reproduction; it doesn't look as tall as the real McCoy would be. Prey or Crey (sp?) also prduced a nice reduced sized Cord 810 roadster.

I really enjoyed getting to see your pictures, thanks for putting them on the forums. There was a time when the Merle Norman Collection was only open for private viewings (this collection is one of the finest collection of great 1930's classic cars in the world, located in San Sylmar, CA) today it is open to the public and the cars plus Jack Nethercutt's collection of music boxes (which is not to be believed) are something any car nut should noy miss! Back in the early seventies when the collection was a very private affair I used to be able to visit their with a friend who had been a mechanic for Jack's racing Ferraris in the early fifties. Jack Nethercutt passed away several years ago and now the collection is open to the public.

as for the auburn, that was one of about 5 cars there with no sign, thats what i was told it was, bought from someone in miami,Florida

now we gonna have a nice discussion with this one, its about drinking and driving and car manufacturers. this is around an 85 rolls royce, the white one in the middle of the isle in front the jeep Cherokee.

upon lowering that door, both doors have a large flask for alcohol and 4 shot glasses in each door, and it was a factory option....why was this a factory option

Great collection and I did spot a few Oldsmobiles in there:thumbsup: He needs some to represent some more Porsche's, Mercedes and BMW's though. I would have stuck around that shop longer than you did even if it was a dead end job. Just being around all those cars would have been fun. :cool2:

There was a time when a drink in the old Corniche was more acceptable than it would be today. Probably an accessory left over from the days when the chauffeur could pass the bottle around. Another take might be if you can afford a new Corniche, you can most likely afford to get well "Lawyered up" should your inebriation need professional help!

That Jag and Benz are gorgeous. I am a muscle car guy but love German and English cars of any vintage as well. They have a charm that simply cannot be matched by any American or Japanese car.
