Played with a Cop Optioned Crown Vic last night.
20 to 80 mph. Dead heat. They are no faster than my Deville in that power band. He did ok, but there was no getting away from me, and I gained on him in the 40-70 range. He did better getting past 80 and we both backed off.
Excellent.....

my modded seville can pop both of those.
My buddy has a 1992 Grand Marquis with the 4.6 and I'm sure I could take him. The 4.9 suprises you even when you just touch the gas it lunges foreward with authority. His 4.6 is a very smooth engine but the heavy body hinders it for sure.

a vic is the only thing out of ford i'd ever purchase....well a marauder too. those are some very handsome cars and can be modified to hell.
Those patroll model Crown Vics aren't made for their blazing speed. They are damn sturdy cars that can take a lot of abuse though. I wouldn't want to be one of these people who buy a used cop car for a primary vehicle....I'd think they would be worn out before the cops give them up.

defintely...i'd go for the certified pre-owned 2000 and newer models, then install 400+hp turbo after warranty exp.

That's definately true, but you ask any police or highway patrol in the country, they'll all say the same thing, "GIMME MY CAPRICE BACK!"

One of my close (cop) buddies back home says the LT1 package Caprice ran like a scalded dog. According to him the Caprice was the car you'd want to chase someone down. If I remember correctly Chevy claimed the LT1 Caprice could top 150 mph (don't know if that's true though). He told me the only bad thing about the caprice was that they would run too hot while in traffic.

The 9C1s weren't limited until about 154mph but in reality they were still BIG cars and drag limited them to a bit over 140. My ETC is smaller physically and has 40 more HP and only goes a couple over 150.
