Ok guys I know this must have come up before but I can not find an answer. Well many here may remember I have been looking for an Allante project. My neighbor has a 93 that has been garaged for some time now. I want it but the North Star failed after a rebuild so it will need an engine. I would love to buy a rebuild motor or better yet put a rebuilt 4.5 in it. If it is not a lot of rewiring then it would be a great project. Is this possible?

Well I located a place that have North Star's rebuilt and shipped for $3200 + 300 core. That is a remarkable price and they give a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty. Now I have to try to see what kind of deal I can get on his car. I really wanted a white car and a 93 because of the brake upgrades and the fact that more parts are shared with other GM cars.

How could I have been so wrong....the car is actually a 91 and he said the issue is that the transmission was slipping and that his key will now work after the car sat a long time. He purchased the car new but it has been garaged for at least 10 years now. I used to always cream over it even though the rims he had on it were a little to big for my taste. Does 3K sound good? I was excited about a 93 but a 91 has the exclusive parts that may make fixing it an issue. What do you guys think?

91 has more thing that IMO make an Allante an Allante...

How is the interior?
How well does the top operate as far as pulldown motors, latches, bindings raising and lowering smoothness etc etc.
How many miles?

i wouldnt worry too much about the slipping tranny. Mine was operating horribly. I changed the fluid, replaced the filter and put in a new vacuum modulator and it GREATLY improved the performance. It was one of the top 5 improvements I made. Use a good quality fluid.

The car is very clean inside and out. It was his baby so he spent money on it and kept it up. When he purchased his M class in about 98/99 he garaged it. he then purchased a 7 series in about 2004 and still never drove the car again. I worry about being able to get parts for the 91 model that is my real issue. With it sitting up does that mean the brakes will be gone now?
