96 sts. took off wheel and rotor to check front bearing flange bolts. i wanted to see what size torx they are since i am going to change bearing. put wheel back on and now i get a click/snap sound from strut when i accelerate and also when i stop. it sounds metallic, like something hitting sheetmetal. what the heck could i have done? car was quiet before i took off wheel. you would swear it was the top of strut, like maybe the strut bearing plate.

Is the caliper mounting bracket mounting surface clean and are the bolts torqued to spec ??

A loose caliper or bracket will click like mad during stops - one click at stop, one or two at brake off/accelerate.

yes it seems one of the caliper bolts is bunged up. took it off and threads were a little chewed up. got new bolt and it turns in smoothly. i notice on my car there is no rubber bellows for caliper bolt between caliper and bracket. the sleeve on both bolts is exposed about 1/4". my other GM cars has a protective rubber booty. is this right on my car?

Snoop around in brake parts, rotors, pads, kits in www.rockauto.com - plenty of pictures - click on the little pics or the INFO icon for a larger view.

drove a few miles to store. clicking is same as before. i had axle nut off last weekend to check if splined axle was loose or frozen in bearing. stuck of course. nut is back on and tight. still waiting on new bearing.

got a new bolt but do not have M11 tap. bolt turned into knuckle ok. i did it without caliper to see if it would seat. than i put caliper on and torqued both bolts to 68lbs. old bolt torqued fine. new bolt just did not feel right. got tight but could not hit torque value. there is a point where you stop turning. so, maybe the knuckle threads are starting to go. i had hoped my car had caliper bracket. just get another. turns out it is threaded into knuckle.
