As the subject says, I'm looking for recommendations for a head gasket repair shop in the Detroit area. I'm actually just west of Detroit, in Redford, Michigan.

I think my car can be driven, so anything within a few hours drive could be viable.

EMR Auto - Hamtramck Michigan, 2649 Caniff St, Hamtramck, MI 48212 (313) 365-9222

Speak to Mike / Roy -they've both been to my shop and are awesome ex-Cadillac techs - they use my studs all the time and would swear by them - :)

Jake, I saw your posting about moving your shop and discounting and financing. Are you still doing that?

PS: I just sent a Private message with my questions.

Do you think this thread will exceed the 185 posts :gg:from your other thread?

Just playin' - you finally got to where we all knew you would end up - HG replacement. Best of luck to you. Why don't you just take your time and tackle the job yourself? I think you would enjoy it, and we will all help you (remotely, that is)

Tateos,

LOL. If Charlie Brown had a car - it would have been this one!

I have been known to go overboard on analysis, and documentation. I used to be a programmer, and spent lots of time analyzing, and documenting, software and processes. I got to take pride in it, and still have that habit.

I am still considering doing the job myself. I appreciate the offer of help, very much.

I am trying to read some of the links posted in these forums, and see what else is on the web, and videos in particular - to judge if this is a job I want to attempt.

I have spoke to EMR, and they are around $2500. 2 year warranty.

Another place near me, A & S is at $1900, all seals replaced - but the are using GM timeserts? They would do the head gaksets (no lower block seals) for around $1400. But only a 6 mos warranty.

Anyone seen, or made, any videos of this?

Sorry I am a bit too tired to go to my PM box and type a message - that deal was only valid for the new shop, I'm not really scheduling cars here in Ontario anymore. I'd love to help you - please somehow get a set of my studs in your engine and I guarantee you won't have any thread / stud issues.

I apologize for my lack of time to respond to messages these days.

If your near Winnipeg now, that's almost 19 hours from Detroit. Too bad for me. I always tend to just miss a deal. Best of luck to you Jake.

Thanks Matt!

For security reasons I won't disclose my locations at any given time online. Both shops are guarded when I'm not around, but I am back and forth right now between Manitoba / Ontario. Winnipeg would be over an hour past me.

At the beginning of the week I was in New York having a meeting with my patent lawyer. I picked up another speeding ticket :(

And all I did was pass a concrete truck that was throwing stones against my new truck's front end. Note to self: No passing in NY state -

Matt - whoever you choose, please make sure they install studs. Last thing we want to see is a thread in the future "thread inserts pulled"........ I am a huge fan of the Olds Aurora (had quite a few of them, one in the "fix up for Jake someday" parking area) and these cars are too beautiful to see the scrap yard.

Is your's the 1st Gen with the Autobahn package? V tire rating - 140MPH limiter, 3.71:1 final gear set, darn near as fast as an STS. What color? Post a pic if you have time! :)

A couple years ago I was driving through St. Paul Minnesota and I could have sworn I saw a first generation Aurora with a cowl induction hood - I tried to get closer to it but traffic on the I-94 was too heavy. I've been searching for that car through the Oldsmobile forums / ACNA forums but no luck.

Jake, I tried to tak a pic just now, but the camera batteries are discharged. Mine is a 1997 Aurora, 1st gen. It is black, but fading in spots from sun exposure, and there is chipped paint on the aluminum hood, and some rust on back passenger wheel well. Inside is tan. It had a Gold 'A' for Aurora on the hood - which I know not all of them had. I don't think it is Autobahn. I recall looking for the V tire rating, and don't think I had that.

I'll post a pic later.

I was guessing Winnipeg, as that was the city that showed up in Manitoba when I did a mapquest to see how far away that was from me. I'd drive a long was to save $1,000 or more - but I don't think it would be smart to drive the Aurora that far. (I figured the 3 hour drive might have been do-able).

I don't understand the security thing?
