: 96FWB: Time for new shocks.

I have a 96 Fleetwood thats in need of some new shocks, all around. Currently my level ride is busted (has been since I purchased the car) the compressor still works or at least I can hear it run.
I'm not really looking to invest the money to fix the level ride and purchase new air-shocks. I don't tow and would be happy with conventional shocks out back.
So I'm wondering what experiance and advice you all might have about which shocks to buy. I wouldn't mind firming up the ride a bit with my new shocks and would perfer something stiffer then stock.
I've been looking at some Munroe shocks designed to fit a caprice cop car, firm ride, durable shock and pretty sure they'll fit.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

I think the shocks and springs are made to work together in a level ride system, the springs are weaker then normal, right?. Wonder how Durk's system is working out.

the ride changes drastically when you go away from OEM... be careful going aftermarket

i wouldn't change the springs - if you do get springs don't scrap the originals for a month or so to make sure everything's cool
post #11 in this thread sums it up pretty well http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-seville-cadillac-eldorado-forum/211702-front-springs.html

No intention on changing the springs, Chances are they're fine. Shocks are my concern right now and I didn't really want to pay for a new set of air-shocks. Just wanting to save some cash and go with convential shocks. I know at least NAPA sells conventional replacements for the rear air shocks. How well they perform I do not know.

you can do it - you probably won't be super happy with the ride, but it's definitely do-able

$75 is what I can do
shipping prices is where I can try and make up the difference

rockauto usually has the parts for a few bucks above dealer cost... i just can't sell at that little markup

I'd pay the extra 6 bucks to know that they are shipped from an ASE parts specialist.
