View Full Version : Differential fluid change

Hey fellas, I need some quick help. I am changing my diff oil tomorrow and can't seem to figure out whether I need the additive or not for my V. I have mobil 1 LS 75w-90 gear oil. The bottle says additive is not necessary for certain applications. I'm leaning towards just adding it since not adding it and it being required would cause damage. I've heard if additive is not needed and you use it, you will lose power to the wheels because of too much slippage. Please advice :)

Yes, I put it in.

Thanks a bunch.

My dealer added 2 bottles of additive to my 09 V. IT was around 10,000 miles when i noticed the rear diff started making noises first thing in the morning.

DEFINITELY put it in. But if you use Amsoil or Red Line, it's already incorporated into the fluid.

I added one bottle of additive and about 1.5 quarts. Car seems to be running smoother. The fluid was really dark as everyone mentioned. Everyone at the shop was acting shocked that I was using mobil one and not royal purple. Does using amsoil 75w-90 void our warranty?

Just tell them it's Mobil 1. If any service writer told me it did, I'd laugh at them...

Next time I'll switch to amsoil. There's tons of debates out there on which oils are better for our cars.

I had my rear-diff. oil changed at 1500 mi., and again at 11.5K mi. for good measure, - by the dealer. Brought my own AMSOIL rear-diff. oil both times and dealer made no mention of warranty issues or possible problems.

My dealer is on crack.... They quoted me $70 to change the gear oil even if I brought my own. That's why I did it myself.

The transfer pump Amsoil sells makes it SOOOOO EASY. a set of Rhino ramps and a pump and it takes 7 minutes, maybe...

I used the pump that you attach to the bottle... Kinda like a lotion pump. Man and I thought masturbating made my arm tired! :)

Heat it in the microwave first........ :)

Heat what?

The fluid, then it pumps easier. You won't even need a pump. Just connect a hose to the bottle and squeeze it in.
