: Black '96 Fleetwood: Chrome rims or black rims?

I dunno. Since the bottom half of the car is chrome, do I go with black rims for contrast or chrome rims? There are black rims with chrome lips and accents, too.....

I want to put 18" rims on it.

Polished has my vote. I'm a rebel.

Polished looks pretty much like chrome, so I'll count that as chrome :-)

Chrome wont get ya home but ya look good at the side of the road... ;)

I'm resurrecting this thread because I'm once again contemplating rims. I've narrowed it down to 18", 5-spoke wheels. I love the way the Torque-Thrust-type wheels look on these cars. I just don't know if I should go black or chrome. The black is $100 less per wheel, and probably easier to maintain.

And don't be like my brother and ask "what's wrong with the stock wheels?" :-) I like the stock wheels, but I like a custom, bigger rim look better. There's too much rubber with the stock 15" wheels.

I think the black would look better, but it's hard to decide without seeing them on the car.

I agree with Mud.

Polished chrome all the way but stock wheels are nicer than those

I like those KMC rims. I never thought of looking at eBay for rims. The company that sells the Boss rims I put up wants almost $200 to ship them. I'll have to shop around.

I'm leaning toward black....

Boss 338s? Come on man, be original. Those are all over the B-body world.

They don't suit the limo, IMO. Not classy enough.

Well you can't say that and not offer up any suggestions, can you? :-)

I don't want anything too flashy, but am open to suggestions.

U2-55s. In chrome, OR with a little black paint:

Huh...I dunno either...I'm like your brother, keep it original. That being said...and I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I kind of like the black and chrome look.

I dunno about putting those aggressive rims on a limo though...might look kind of stupid.

There was a 93 Fleetwood for sale in my area, dark stormy blue with wicked spoked wheels on it...that was pretty awesome.

I like those U2s, but they start at 20" it seems. IMO, 18" is just about right. Anything bigger starts to look ghetto.

I've always liked HotRodSaint's car. I don't think he's posted here in a while, but he has a black Fleetwood w/ 18" Torque Thrust wheels on it. His are gray, but I'd go black:

His is lowered a bit, too.

I'm a sucker for 18s, too. That is what I run on my SS:

They look like they're just the right size on these cars. I wonder about the ride quality, though. On the SS you went from a 16 to an 18, right? Was there a big difference in ride quality?

I'd be going from 15 to 18...

any 5 spoke (resemblings torqs) are for muscle cars IMO.

i think a caddie needs something a little more..well...elegant i guess is the word..

i been eyeing up these ones..they remind me of the newer DTS rims

and yes these are a 5 spoke, but more caddyish !

I'm not sure what you're talking about... those second wheels don't belong anywhere near a Cadillac. <_<

I had chrome 17s, Polished 18s, and then Silver painted 18s with polished lip on my old '96:

1) Chrome 17 inch Impala SS wheels w/ custom Cadillac centercaps:

2) Polished Enkei SST-2 18 inch wheels:

3) Painted w/ polished lip 18 inch OZ Nova wheels:

I miss that car :(

It moved with me from Miami (first pic), to Virginia Beach (second pic), to Chicago (last pic). It now resides in Jacksonville, FL with the new owner.

Not black but a bit darker, I put gray C55's on my fw.

Still researching.

Because of the 7,800 lb. GVWR I need wheels that are rated around 2,000 lbs. on each corner. This is tough to come by in a decent looking wheel. I exchanged e-mails with Boss and their 304 wheel has a 2,100 lb. rating. I kind of like them. Note the rear disc conversion :-p

Ditch the emblem in the middle of these and there you go. (I vote for chrome over black, though)

That's funny. I stumbled across those this morning and showed my son (10 years old). He said they're cool, but would look goofy. I tend to agree. Very cool looking, but would probably look silly mounted on the car.

One last question (sorry if I asked this before): to those who moved from 15" to 18"+ wheels...was there a big (negative) difference in ride quality?

Stingroo
06-09-11, 05:10 PM
I can't imagine it being too different. Impala SSs came with 17's, and I've been in a few of those and find them quite smooth. What's an extra inch?

Black, if you like bling get chrome, polishing aluminum sucks.

How about some KMC Novas, paint the center black.

Chrome version looks good too...
