havent been on here in a while, been driving hondas! debating on picking up a 80 coupe deville. has the 4100 still. would love to swap out a lsx, and put a 5 or 6 speed behind it. has anyone here done a manual swap on a coupe deville or fleet? any tips pointers, thread links would be much appreciated

Yep, 82 to 85. Unless someone installed the beloved 4100.

^ lol...why would anyone do that?! :D

I've never seen an 80's coupe with a manual tranny. would take some customizing. center console, bucket seats...pedals...steering column. Would kinda be cool to see :)

Probably have to get over to the caprice forums to get more info on a manual tranny swap.

The stock engine for a 80 cdv is a 6.0 liter (368 cu.in.), in 81 they also had a 6.0 with the 8-6-4- engine.

That's the whole reason i want it!. something different. Vegas is infested with riced out hondas and thieves. my hatch got stolen 2 times so im done!

All the Cadillacs in vegas are either Lowriders or Donks. would love to pull up in a nice coupe, vouges with an ls and manual, then smoke the doors off of whatever pulls up.

Thanks! ill take a look asap! i did a lot of searching online and couldn't find much other than 500/350/olds swaps. Cadillac Bob on layitlow.com did a lt1 swap on a 90'd Coupe. i have the videos on my youtube channel.

Or... you could talk to your friendly neighborhood RWD section moderator who just happens to have done a six speed swap himself. The very first one in Canada, actually.

Please elaborate. I'm also looking at this option for the 500(so we can be even for the race). You have a T56 right? I'm just nervous about the third peddle and stuff that goes with it. What all do you have to do?

Yes, T56. 4.10 rear gears. B&M shifter. Custom fab clutch pedal mount, Camaro hydraulic clutch setup. Custom tubular transmission crossmember.

For a complete (trans/bellhousing/electrical connectors/shifter/hydraulics/pedals) used trans setup from a yard, budget 1000-1500. A rebuilt will cost a little more, but then you need to add up all those little things you need to finish the job.

Stock, the 94-up T56 is rated at 450ft-lbs, so it is a very stout piece. You can build it stronger, however, with components like the Viper mainshaft.

There is a company (F2B) that now makes a billet mount to use complete F Body pedals in a B body, so that should work on a D/C as well since they have pretty much the same firewall.

I've done two swaps now, and it isn't a super hard swap. Both were done in a day, at least 15 hours each.

The first problem to overcome would be that the T56 wasn't made with the BOP bellhousing pattern. I'm sure you could get an adapter plate and a spacer for the flywheel. Yep, Jegs has them (http://www.jegs.com/p/JEGS/JEGS-Engine-to-Trans-Adapter-Plates/751074/10002/-1)

Another major concern would be the actual use of the Cadillac engine. It does not rev like an LT1. I shift my SS at close to 6000 RPM. With the 4.10s and the short tires (295 25 18s), 1st through 4th gear goes VERY quickly. I also have the benefit of a rev limiter if I miss a shift or over-rev.

Interesting stuff here. Care to do swap number three? Sounds like fun but if I did this, you would have to come down to help out. My engine can rev pretty high with the aftermarket valvetrain and bigger cam but I've only got 3.08 gears for now. How much does the Impala weight?

The SS weighs about 4150.

Just pulled this info from a thread where someone kept track of their costs for the swap. I would say the numbers are about right. Budget in the ball park of 5k to get it all done. This is doing all labour yourself except for the rear gear install.

A little off topic, but speaking of floor mounted shifters, has anyone installed a Lightning Rod in their Cadillac?

lol thats so weird i was thinking the same thing when i first saw this thread. i also agree about the manual swap not being worth it. a built auto tranny could be just as fast as a manual and its a caddy... you gotta be cruisin not bothered shiftin all those gears lol

I've actually had ideas about putting an entire 442 interior into an 80's Coupe, complete with rally gauges, center console with lightening rods, and bucket seats...

Cool idea but if you built the LSX (or better still got one from an 07+ Escalade and tweaked it a bit) you would be near to that 450 ft lb limit....THM 400 built up is the choice of a lot of drag racers (that and powerglides but who wants only 2 speeds for the street).

One of the SS guys has a set of Lightning Rods. They are super hard to find, and very expensive when you do...
