Very similar to the ninja in concept. Not extreme, but can do all things well. It gets great mileage, can do 150, and is not as uncomfortable as the latest sportbikes for commuting. The new Yamaha R1 has it beat with 180HP bone stock. As far as bike recommendations, if this is your first bike, i'd recommend a 600cc. They are small and easy to handle but still have the power to have some fun on them. I have a YZF600R which, as Rich said, is a good balance between comfort and performance. The R6 is also a great 600cc bike. It's a little more agressive (sore muscles after a long ride) and is fuel injected instead of carbaurated like the 600R. I'd recommend the YZF600R over the R6 for new rider though. The only way to know for sure is to actually take bikes out and ride them. TheCaddyKidd 09-13-04, 12:17 AM Right now my car is under my dad's insurance for his business which is the CTS so I assume that I am under his insurance. If I go and buy this bike and insure it will I still be under his insurance or will I be on my own insurance. I dont wanna mess anything up wit the car but if that is under his company then the bike will just be under my name so i assume that when i drive the car im under his insurance and when im on the bike id be under my insurance right? wildwhl 09-13-04, 12:38 AM It is unlikely that business insurance will cover a motorcycle - the liability back to the business is too great. Since this is your first bike I'd recommend the 600 class also, but possibly something more tame and with less bodywork than a full on sport bike. Odds are that it will at least get knocked over/dropped while you learn to ride, might as well get something that won't break too much $$$ when you do. To be TOTALLY HONEST with you, get a used bike for as little as you can and spend your first season on it. If you take care of it, you'll get nearly as much $$$ out of it as you put in, and you'll get to learn on something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg to purchase and insure. I've been riding bikes all of my adult life, and currently ride a Ducati Monster (looks great next to the V, but I'm thinking a 999 or at least S4R would look better, or maybe R1:)). I've spent many days injured including an ambulance ride and 5 days in the hospital. My left wrist and right knee have the scars, pins, and plates to show for it. Take my advice. Yes, CBR's, Ninja's, GSXR's, etc. are awesome machines. Fact is, most any modern motorcycle is better than most any of us riders. Don't bite off too much too soon and you'll get the chance to show that you can handle a top notch liter class sport bike at 9/10ths...bite off too much too soon and you'll never even make it to the "comfort zone"... Just my .02. Flamesuit, and leathers, on! Balforth 09-13-04, 08:03 AM don't buy one. i've had two friends die in the past month, my best friends dad nearly die and get airlifted because he wiped out right in front of him, one friend that is still waiting to get a metal cap to replace the huge portion of the right half of his skull that he lost after greeting a tree (although he was drinking) and two other friends get rid of their bikes because injuries much less severe, yet pain i still wouldn't want to endure (ankle/wrist surgery). just get a cts-v. at least it has airbags. I see so many biker idiots without helmets! As you point out so much head trauma in biker accidents. I tried it once. scared the hell out of me. TheCaddyKidd 09-13-04, 12:54 PM iv done alot of research on bikes and safety and realized that most accidents are caused by motorcyclists that insist on doing wheelies on the highway and doing cray things will at high speeds..... honestly this bike is for town to town cruising | |
