Called On-Star this morning and asked for a discounted or promotional price for the On-Star Directions and Connections package which normally costs $299.99. I was told that if I renew today (my subscription ends 10/14/10) they would give me a $60.00 discount. Asked about getting an additional 2 months free and was told I would have to call back Mon-Fri. I'll call tomorrow and post the results of the call.
I just renewed the Safe & Sound Plan today on my C6 Corvette and STS for $149 a year. I simply told the adviser that was my offer before he could go into any sales talk. He was fine with it, and gave me the $149 "Promotion Offer" without hesitation.
I got the exact same promotion offer last year by making the same call.
They are willing to bargain, just like XM.
Adviser told me he had to have a credit card number on file in order for me to get the promotion. I said "no you don't. Invoice me, and I'll send you a check." Again, he said okay without hesitation.
I also got the offer of $149.00 for Basic On-Star but opted for the $199.00 ($100 discount) for the On-Star Directions and Connections package. I also asked for and got a 2 month bonus so it came out to $200 */* 14 months = $14.29 per month plus tax.
The Navigation Unit on my 2008 STS sucks big time. About one third of the time it does not take me where I programmed it to go so I have to call On-Star and have directions downloaded to the instrument panel. I also use Map Quest and Google Earth to download destinations to the On-Star Virtual Adviser but you can only store five (5) destinations.
^^^ I've gotten used to my STS NAV with the newer disk. I usually go through spelling a POI rather than by address anymore. HUD driving instructions are the greatest. (I can switch back to 'Band' to check out the details of the concerts, etc. playng on XM. And get where I'm going!)
So in order to continue to have the ability to download a destination via Mapquest I need to have the Directions and Connections package. Bummer.
Has anyone tried to sign-up for multiple years for an even bigger discount? If you get the D&C plan for $200 per for one year, would they give you a bigger discount for 2 or 3 years?
