I remember this exactly.....

My mom picked me up from school, and we had a doctors apointment, so as we were making a turn right before going on th bridge, we had the radio on, and they said, this just in, a plane hit the world trade center it wasn't for about 1 1/2 hours after that I relaized that it was a 777 and they collapsed, I thought it just hit the roof or something.......

I was alone at my shop working and when the first report came over the radio, I tried to go online to learn more about what was going on. All the online ISPs were down, so I tried calling over to my wife's office but the phone circuits were all busy. It was kinda scarey at first when I couldn't get any info about what was going on.

I was walking into my 2nd period lit class, and the TV was on..... It was really weird, because all the lights were out, and it was DEAD silent...... There is never a silence in between classes..... Everyone was just staring blankly at the TV, and the teachers were just sitting there..... They cancelled the classes for the rest of the day, and we just sat there all day and watched the TV.......

No one was allowed in or out of the building......

The weirdest part of the day was when I got home, and we saw air force 1 and the 2 fighter jets flying overhead...... It was weird because we hear the jets going and I was like "there arent supposed to be planes flying, right"....

my school is soo cheap, they didn't show anything on TV, and they had the day going just like a normal day......

.......when I got home, I did manage to find 4 blank VHS tapes, ran each of them on SLP, and had it recording CNN (wish we got FOXnews here, but CNN is all we had at the time :suspense:) Anyway maybe it was 3 tapes, but I have somewhere between 24-36 hours of Sep. 11, and into Sep. 12th, I think I also have some tapes of the news footage of the recent war....although I dunno where they are, I figure, in 30 years, this stuff will be good and something to show to kids or something

There was a documentary on CBS that tells it all. Two French movie producers were filming routine stuff about the FDNY and then all hell broke loose.

I was at work. The whole damn internet crashed. I tried to make it a regular day, but it was like time stood still for the rest of the week. Nothing got done.

Did gas prices like EXPLODE around you guys.... Because where I live they just went up like 50c..... Pretty bad, but in some places they were charging something like $5...... And the govt made the stations pay back the customers......

Actually one store just opened and new place and was selling gas at what the high temp. the day before was. So we filled my F-150(35 gal),my Durango(25 gal), my Dad's Dakota(18 gal),and my Dad's Expedition(25 gal). The gas was going for $.94 per gallon. :D That should last us for a few weeks.

I was at work in the Babson College Media Services Dept. I had the 7am-11am shift. It was a very bright, sunny, cool & misty day in Boston. My boss got a phone call and told me to turn on the TV in our office. We could see the smoke rising from the first plane's impact. I immediately had to take a van around campus and deliver TV's to classrooms so people could watch the footage. Just as I had set up a second TV, the second plane hit. It was like a dream or something. I got out of work at 11am and they already had cancelled classes for the day. A kid in one of my classes lost his dad. I'll never forget that day.

That was a very strange day for me. I work 2nd shift, and normally sleep till 1pm. On 9/11, I woke up for some strange reason at around 5 in the morning, MST. I couldn't go back to sleep, so I turned on the tube, flipped it to CNN to check the news. It was then that I struck by shock as I watched, on live TV, the second plane hitting the tower. I was glued at that point, watching the whole day, until I had to go to work. No one called into our support line that day.

I was out in country starting an engine rebuild for a stock car. Started remembering all my squad in Vietnam. Didn't get much work done.

I was working afternoons at the time so I was home.
That was the day the lumber was delivered for my new garage.
The lumber all had to be moved from where they dropped it so I moved my truck back and turned the radio on to listen to some music. They broke in with a special report so I went inside to watch the news.
It took me the biggest part of the day to get the lumber moved because I kept going inside to watch it on tv.

I was at the University of Texas getting ready for my military science class when I stepped into the lounge next to a Colonel, 2 Majors, and 2 Captains. They were all just silently staring at the TV. We were pretty much just shocked. Now I'm probably heading off to Iraq around Sept. 1st.

It was really strange to look up in the sky on a perfectly clear day and not see any vapor trails and not hear any jet noise. All the planes were grounded for what, three days?

I was at work. My story is little different from most of people. I thought it was an accident, then to my shock found out different. I am resurrecting this thread because of the website I found. It's www.makenynyagain.com. I heard on the radio that they decided, or are deciding to put the towers looking exactly like they used to, only with "modifications" if you get my drift (for those who didn't, I'll just say "airplanes"). The talk show host was all rah-rah-rah, we will show these terrorists that we're still America, blah-blah-blah.

When you look at that website, someone tell me....

Would you want to work in those towers if they're built again. Why or why not?

I was on my way to the county jail, just came out of the local police station holding cell and was being transported to daytona beach. id work there if they paid me. it be kinda weird but i wouldnt mind

That's because all the planes were re-directed to Canada for landings. ;) You got to wonder about all the pollution from the exhaust, and I heard that the sky was its actual blue and not the whitish haze we usually see. Remember seeing stars in the sky during the 1970's Elvis? The sun used to appear yellowish, not anymore, now a whitish haze. Sure you can see stars today, but not like back then! Just a thought.

I was dropping off resumes and several people were on the street talking about it. Some of my friends kept their eyes glued to the TV and couldn't leave all day. People couldn't believe it, and that doctor had the most eerie footage I've ever seen. Then when they showed the reaction in the middle east (cheering) I was VERY upset and angry.

This was our generations major event, much like for the previous generation it was the JFK assination. Even my parents remember what they were doing when they heard about JFK, it shocked the world.

It might be kind of eerie working in the new towers, but I guess real estate is too precious there to not use. I remember them saying they wouldn't develop it.

I had just switched to my sh8y math class, and the tv was on.. all i could see was fire... then on the word bar, it finally flashed about the Pentigon.. at first i thought it was just a huge brush fire and the teacher was watching like she was on a break or something. Ill always remember that picture, of the burning pentigon on the screen.. and then it breaking away to the shots of the aircraft striking into the WTC.

We never talked about it there, but after that class was social studies.. my social studies teacher was cool and we had a big discussion about why they would do such a thing and whats happened in the pass, and what the US has and will do.

Totally unknown to me at first, but it hit later at lunch what could have happened to the nations defense (pentigon) and the world trade centers- how many people work there , how big they are etc. I was silent the rest of the day. When i got home, i there finally saw the true distruction since most classes didnt keep the tv on.

Our new fire chief is part of a specialist rescue team. I've seen him speak twice on what he saw at the Pentagon, just unconscionable and very traumatic. Charred skeletons sitting around a conference table. People still sitting at their desks, one with a telephone still in hand. It was just a huge ball of fire that immediately incinerated everything it contacted.

This man was selected to be the Chief of the Memphis Fire Department but the stupid ass city council turned him down because he wasn't a resident of the city. Now he's chief of our small town (pop. 37,000), making almost as much money, but without all the agita.

i was in class when the first plane hit but i saw the second one. i was working at an elementary school at the time and it was hard because people were coming to pick up their kids all day, but we had to act like it was a normal day. the worst thing we could ahve done was to try to explain to the kids what was going on. it was weird being outside the next few days and not seeing any vapor trails. i kind of liked it.

I was asleep as it was 3 more hours till i had to get up and go to work (alaska time)

I was awoken by the telephone , Dad was calling , we was trying to console my mother who firmly belived i was being shipped off to fight a war because of those planes. He said "Are going anywhere?" , I said "no ,why are you calling so early?" . He said "Turn on cnn" I tuned in just in time to see the second plane hit . I just said "gotta go" . I drove to the shop and got the shop opend up and started getting trucks ready to be worked on . I knew we would need to ship humvees/and duces , i just didnt know where or for what reason (security /rescue/war). Had the ops guys call all my bosses and wake them up . We spent the rest of the day getting as much of the fleet running perfecty while listening to the radio (against my will). I kept trying to turn it off , i didnt want to hear it , the more i heard it the more i got mad .

When they needed a voulnteer to go over for endureing freedom , most knew i would be the first to raise my hand ...i wanted ot do my part sooooo bad .Unforetunatly i had to wait 8 months to go only ot get there 6 weeks early......

For a base full of F-16 ,Oa-10 and kc135's it was eiierly quiet for a day , only had one f-16 leave , scrambled after a korean 747 who wouldnt acknollge the tower and wouldnt turn back to its home , it scared alot of alaskans .

I was at work (in New York at the time). When I heard someone mention it, I ran downstairs to our cafeteria and actually saw the second plane smash into the second tower. From there, I was running up and down reporting news. I was scaring the hell out of everybody because there were a lot of rumors coming over the news at the time - such as that many other buildings and sites were hit...

Sunday the 9th I was in Spring Lake and headed back inland. Missed 95 somehow and ended up on the GSP. Hit the turnpike eventually but not before catching the Towers off to the east shrouded in the coppery smog of a hot and humid weekend. (For anybody not from the Jersey side that's what you always saw first. From the turnpike as you hit the Meadowlands or from the train-right past Newark-you always saw the Towers first.) I didn't know it was the last time I would see them.

I took Monday off and we were still in the midst of a really oppressive and nasty heat spell. Monday night it finally broke. I woke up Tuesday to an unbelievably beautiful morning and was pissed I hadn't taken this day off too. Listened to CDs in the car so I was pretty clueless. I walked into the gym and noticed Katie Couric yammering about something with an image of a smoking World Trade Center on the screen. I just thought it was a repeat story about the first bombings several years ago. I got on the machine with my headphones and read my Newsweek. I went to get water and realized everyone was silent watching the TVs. It still didn't click-because all I knew was that it was a 'small plane' that had crashed. Got back on the machine and plugged into cardiotheater. Then the second plane. My mind could not process what I was seeing. One minute it's just another Tuesday and the next over 2,000 souls have vanished in senseless, horrific ways. The Pentagon, some field in Pennsylvania…New York. I was numb.

Aside #1: Went to school at Pratt (Brooklyn) and was always in the city. NEVER liked the look of the Towers-bad 70s architecture with a nasty wind-swept plaza in the center (really horrible in winter). Except from the (Brooklyn Navy Yard) piers when dawn would make them glow gold and orange-first lighting the tops then eventually the whole towers. The rest of the day they were just grey aluminum. Now what I wouldn't give to have it all back the way it was.

Aside #2: Anybody do the tour? I hated playing the tourist but now I'm glad I did it. Made it to the Observation Deck which was fine because you really couldn't get near the edge. But remember inside? The floor right by the windows was glass. It unnerved me standing on glass 110 stories above Manhattan.

Aside #3: Stayed in July 2000 at the Millenium on the 46th floor facing the Towers. It all looked so massively huge and indestructible. The hotel's gym was on the third floor (north) with windows overlooking a church graveyard. The hotel was severely damaged and it is now open but I don't think I could stay there now.

Aside #4: Usually taking the train in everyone would sort of wake up and start getting ready for Penn Station when you saw the Twin Towers. Parents would point out for their kids “there it is…there's New York…' and even diehard jaded commuters gave a glance east.

I didn't get back to the city until December after the attack and the train became completely silent as we reached that point. It was so hard to believe it was all gone. Nowadays it's all back to normal but we all look eastward at the missing skyline and I know I'm not the only one remembering that one horrible day.

I was at a client site in Detroit. One of my team members came in late and said he heard about a small plane hitting the WTC on the radio. No one could get to any of the public news sites. I was able to access the Wall Street Journal site because I had a subscription. Within a few minutes, we had TVs and radios tuned in. By about 10:30, all the buildings in downtown Detroit were being evacuated on rumors of a plane headed our way. I was home before noon, made lunch, and watched a bit of TV playing the same clips over and over. Since my wife and her caregiver were at lunch, I packed up a pistol, targets, and a few hundred rounds of ammo and headed for my shooting club.

Thanks LIV:
One more.
Aside #5: When I was at Pratt and needed to free my mind I would hop the SI Ferry. If I timed it right (post-rush hour) -the ride back would be pretty empty. Seeing the Towers from that perspective was breathtaking especially on a clear winter night. As you got closer everything just got bigger and bigger and I would just marvel at the accomplishment of it all-at the optimism it represented. At the time the fare was fifty cents. Now its free and just a little bittersweet.

I think I am now PM-able. I think.

Had worked second shift till 12:00 or 1:00 AM and was still in bed when my mom called me and told me to turn on the TV and that we had been attacked and would soon be at war. I went to my closet and got my uniforms out of the box and pressed them (out of USAF for 4 months) and was more than half expecting a call to report to either Rickenbacker or Wright Patterson.

I noticed that it was really clear that morning, I mentioned it to a friend!

I was very moved by what happened in Oct. of 2001. My wife and I were coming back from a business trip to Arkansas. As we approached Washington from the north west, we saw a hugh rainbow. When we topped the last hill coming into the Baltimore metro area, we could see the rainbow was directly over D.C. It was very strange, the angle of the sun should have only produced a rainbow that would have been visable to our east! It was a perfect rainbow ground to ground. People were stopping to look. We realized at that point, that the sun had set about 10 minutes before! This thing was visable for about 25 minutes and it was the most perfect one I'd ever seen. This was one month after 9/11, every time a plane went over you wondered, is this another highjacked flying bomb? Will we see some attack on Washington as come closer to town? You just couldn't help it.
When we saw that rainbow, I had the most peaceful feeling come over me! I knew right then, it was a sign telling us, no more, not now. Frankly after that I felt better and still do!

I remember thinking how clear the day was as well. The day after was also.

I don't know if it was supernatural as some have suggested, or if it was just a byproduct of the lower pollution generated on those days.

we made sure no one said a word about it at the school i worked at. we didn't think it was our place to be the ones to explain it. we did send a letter home telling parents that they needed to address it however they wanted to, keeping in mind by the next day all the other kids would know.
