: Aftermarket Catalytic Converter?

My bank 1 cat is dead. My car's got 115k on it, and I'd prefer not to dump $700 into a stupid GM cat. Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there any aftermarket cats? Just get a low mileage pull from a yard? Links to low cost replacement GM parts?

Thanks.

BTW, the cheapest I can find the part is @ gmpartsdirect for $461 ($381 after refunded core charge) shipped.

The part numbers for our cats (4.6L Northstar) are:

12567687 (bank 1 - driver side)
12567688 (bank 2 - passenger side)

For a Caddy that sounds kinda reasonable to me but if it were me I would check the recycle places. You can try SHRAMS.I'm don't have their eddress but do a search. They usually have tons of STS parts.

I had the dealer install an aftermarket cat on my other car (GM 3.8 L). Not sure I'll ever do that again. At 13 months the check engine light came on... took it back to the dealer and they told me the cat was bad. Only warrantied for 12 months.

I found a pull from a car with 10 miles on it shipped for $145. That's a deal. Now if only there was an easy way to remove this manifold and get this one on.

I was supposed to have a long drive this weekend. I guess i"m not really going anywhere until this gets replaced. :)
