As I left work for lunch yesterday, I got a business call on my cell and concentrating on details of the call, I just walked up to the car and got in.
There was a brief break in the conversation, but the system worked just fine & muted the radio after I started the car. I didn't drive off but I easily could have and continue the conversation. I know some members have trouble with the STS Bluetooth feature, but it's usually 'way cool for me.
I do find in working a technical job, the trouble with cell phone related driver distraction has little to do with holding a phone. Stay safe. Empty interstate is one thing, unfamiliar surface streets are another. Pull off the road when you have to think and talk. A few minutes in travel time aren't worth a wreck (or worse).

If you've had the firmware upgrade, they reduced the number of commands and made other changes to improve recognition percentages. The same firmaware upgrade puts MRC on the first config screen and improves Bluetooth.
Try speaking softer & quicker. You almost don't need vowels and don't stretch consonents. Turn down the fan & put up the windows. Experiment. Try 'funny' voices. Once you hit on something that works, try variations.
The VR Help function is nice because it will list the exact phrases the system is programmed to recognize.
For S & G's, if you know another supported language, change the setting & try it.
Is there a firmware upgrade newer that September 2009?
I am fairly certain mine was upgraded then
But on another note....thats a lot of work to tey to get something to work as designed
Have you used a system like this on another brand and seen how seamlessly it works?
I remember being able to use the one on the Acura and the Infiniti during the test drive with no issues
Has GM improved this system to par with other makes on the new 2010-2011 vehicles?
Because for me...that procedure you just described would deter me from even using the system..it doesn't sound the least bit user friendly
