View Full Version : Fastest Front Wheel Drive?? I have always heard that the 1970 Cadillac Eldorado 500 is the fastest 0-60 and 1/4mi front wheel drive out the the factory. It is still the most powerful at 400 hp and 550 lb ft torque.
Is this a true or false statement?
How fast was it? How fast is the fastest front wheel drive?
Cadillac vs the world!
Thanks!!
Thomas Martin ShadowLvr400 09-11-04, 10:33 AM Most powerful I'd heard was the 67 Toronado with the 425 actually...
As for fastest, I'd probably point at the 13.8 from the Dodge SRT-4. That's a quick little pocket rocket... gothicaleigh 09-11-04, 02:28 PM Fast Front Drivers of recent build:

The cars were just too heavy at the time. Stoneage_Caddy 09-15-04, 11:10 AM it may not be the fastest int he world anymore but .....it certainly got the biggest engine a front driven (car) ever could get ..
Biggest front driver i ever worked on was the CAT 631E scraper , if memeory serves it had a 11 litre engine , when the brakes fail its pretty damn fast
kinda looked like this one :

Stoneage_Caddy 09-15-04, 04:11 PM it was rear drive tho , and i think the syclone took its place in 91 for bragging rights gothicaleigh 09-15-04, 04:12 PM Yeah, I had my facts wrong... illumina 09-15-04, 07:48 PM I can't find a reliable source for the 500cid Eldo, but the 472cid 340hp/480tq one posted a 0-60 in 9.2 seconds and a quarter mile in 17.2, and I really doubt that the monster 500 shaved off half of that time. back then, timing a car was done with a stopwatch, particularly to 60 mph, not the datron-correvit optical 5th wheel. i would say those times are close, but not the most accurate. Anthony Cipriano 09-16-04, 03:29 PM if i'm not mistaken, the buick regal gs should be up there as well. i thought they were a little quicker than the sts. gothicaleigh 09-16-04, 06:00 PM 1992 Buick Regal GS 9.0 17.0
1995 Buick Regal GS 8.2 16.0
1997 Buick Regal GS 6.6 15.0
1998 Buick Regal GS 6.7 15.1 (same car through 2004)
Not faster than the STS, but it would make the list. The Regal GS is pretty much the same thing as the same year Pontiac GTP (with slightly less weight). 240hp Supercharged 3800 V6 mated to a 4 speed transmission. Speed limited to 108mph. 3,543lb. curb weight. I had no idea the Regal GS could move to 60 so quickly. Stoneage_Caddy 09-20-04, 10:46 AM Wonder what the Olds Calis W41 ran ?
Or what the achivea SCX ran ......
Seemd like back in the late 80s the quad 4 powered olds n bodys ran pretty well in showroom stock and T-2-3 in scca RealmCenter 10-19-04, 09:09 PM 1986-1987 GLHS Omni/Charger
1992-1993 Datyona IROC R/T
1991-1992 Spirit R/T
These ones should be on there too, I think the Spirit R/T was the fastest american made sedan at the time
Darren Stoneage_Caddy 10-19-04, 09:11 PM Oh , thats right , damn how could i have forgotten about those davesdeville 10-19-04, 09:49 PM The GLH-s turbo Omni's ran flat 16s IIRC. Spirit R/T is mid 14s. RealmCenter 10-20-04, 07:24 AM '86 GLHS was 14.8, a stock GLH turbo would run slightly better than a 16 in the 1/4. Keep in mind Carroll Shelby intercooled the "S" models. |
