View Full Version : HID Questions umnitza 09-10-04, 07:31 PM Had a chance to visit the dealer this weekend. Do all CTS's have the HID optional or standard for the low beams?
So the questions are:
How many of you have done an HID upgrade?
What Kelvin?
What are your impressions?
TIA. TheCaddyKidd 09-10-04, 07:54 PM I am in the process of having an HID upgrade from the stock halogen projectors. I am converting to the stock HID's that come on the CTS equipped wit them. I got the HID's off of some guy who totaled his cts. Miscreant was very informative in telling me that the pinouts are the same and it is a plug and play swap. I also am changing the high beam bulbs the Nokya plug and play artic white bulbs and have already changed the fogs the the Nokya. I also am going to replace that little light in the triangular part of the headlamp to the piaa blue bulbs umnitza 09-10-04, 09:07 PM Are the ones you are swapping inside projectors? or are some headlights reflectors on CTSs. CTS Orlando 09-10-04, 09:11 PM For the sake of keeping things simple, and to satisfy my own curiousity, has anyone upgraded their regular projector beams with Sylvania Silverstar bulbs? Is there a noticeable difference? umnitza 09-10-04, 09:16 PM For the sake of keeping things simple, and to satisfy my own curiousity, has anyone upgraded their regular projector beams with Sylvania Silverstar bulbs? Wouldn't waste your money:) There is a difference, but it's not worth the $$$ at least not in the BMW headlights:( TheCaddyKidd 09-10-04, 09:28 PM The headlamps i am swaping in are the regular ones that come off of the cts's. i assume they are the projector hid.. i have th projector halogens now but i want the real hid that come wit the cts....
for those who are wondering about swapping out their halogen bulbs and putting in the plug and play hid bulbs i say it is worthe it... i swapped out my fogs and i noticed a nice whiter/blue light instead of the red light.. i personally find it brighter and think it owuld look good in the reg headlight place. umnitza 09-10-04, 09:40 PM http://www.umnitza.com/albums/album17/Behms.sized.jpg
We do this all the time, but the question is, how does it look with CTS headlights? I am in the process of having an HID upgrade from the stock halogen projectors. Are you doing the work yourself or are you getting it done at a shop, if so can you post where. And what is this upgrad costing you? TheCaddyKidd 09-13-04, 04:54 PM I got the headlamps off of ebay for 65 a piece and I am have rayco put the new headlamps in. Rayco is located in New Jersey route 46 East. They did not give me a set price as I am having police strobes put in also. I will find out how much they will charge to simply swap headlights. They did tell me that a brand new aftermarket HID system would run 700 plus install. Will post the actual price for the swap. Also keep an eye on ebay. Good stuff passes by for cheap. umnitza 09-14-04, 04:57 PM Do these kits have auto levelers and a line-of-sight cut off?
HIDs need to be made specifically for the car they are applied to.
the projector is the reason for the cutoff, not the HID themselves.
Yes, ours are made for each application. overboostpsi 09-14-04, 08:05 PM Hey guys...
is it true that the front bumper has to be removed in order to change a blown headlight bulb?
So if someone wanted to upgrade to an aftermarket hid kit, you would have to remove the front bumper to install the kit?
TIA Has anyone used the super-white halogens? Are these things worth anything or are they a waste of money? TheCaddyKidd 09-15-04, 12:02 PM Super White Halogens? If you are talking about the fake HID that are made by like Nokya and such companys I would say it is worth it. You can get a set online for like 30 bucks. I replaced my fog lights with the Nokya's and they light up the road a nice blue. Ten times better fsttyms1 09-15-04, 05:19 PM the hid bulbs are cheap now days. the balasts can be found for good deals too. dont waste your money on any thing other than true HID. they are the best, after owning them on my last car, i will never own a car that doesnt have them (if it doesnt come with them ill add them to it) I replaced the stock CTS low beams with the Sylvania SilverStar bulbs. Yes, I think they look better, they ARE brighter. I should have gone the extra step and replaced the high beams at the same time but didn't. I was told that the front bumper cover would have to be removed. I thought I could change the bulbs skipping that step. I was wrong. The entire headlight assembly must be removed to replace the bulbs. Someone who has done it once could do it again with little effort. In retrospect, It's not worth the effort unless you're doing an HID conversion or you have to replace a bad light. I've learned that I don't like removing pieces on a new vehicle. Most Xexon or HID replacement lights are cheap regardless of a lifetime replacement offer. The Sylvania SilverStar light are about $38 a pair and appear to be high quality lights. I have them installed in all my vehicles. BOTTOM LINE: get factory HID lights if possible. :bouncy: Super White Halogens? I was looking at some PIAA for $78, anyone know of any spots that has them cheaper? |
