Has anyone used a crate or a reman 429 engine? I am looking for something for my 66. I also was told that I should be looking for a 67 intake manifold and that will allow me to use a new quadrajet carb and be much more reliable and easy to work with.

If you're serious about taking out that sweet original engine in that pristine car, just put in a 500.

What kind of performance you looking for?

I agree if you are gonna take out the original might as well drop in a bigger one 472 or 500. You can even buy then pre built up. What are you gonna do with the parts off the original engine? XD.
Also shouldn't it be 425 and not 429?

I believer the 425 was on later model year cars. The 66 and 67 are the 429.
I dont necesarilly want to do an engine swap or deviate from the original style engine. I just know that the car is 40 years old, has a ton of oil on the bottom of the car, and until I get to further investigate the problem there might be internal issues where a new long block would make sense. If I dont go that route I plan to rebuild the engine and freshen it up. Performance is not an objective, but reliabilty is and id rather do the work now than after the car is painted. Only performace things I might do is upgrade carb, maybe a cam if anything is available and headers and exhaust.

I think an upgraded cam, for mileage, and reliable carb are good choices. You would need a better intake to make headers worth buying.

Are there any options for aftermarket intakes for that motor? I have not been able to find any.
Also I would do headers not only for performance but for looks and cleanliness. I have heard the 429 exhaust manifolds are prone to cracking.

Don't think you have intake options, probably have to work the one you have now.

I was told that i should be looking for an intake from a 67 429 because they used quadrajets and then i could easily upgrade the carb. Any ideas where I can find one.
