: Peeled stickers off of visors, now visor skin needs Viagra

i finally got around to one of my auto annoyances---peeling the yellow/white safety stickers off of the visors that always tend to ugly out a perfectly good interior, IMO.

did it the way i always do, with a blow dryer to help soften the adhesive. they came off nicely, leaving no residue. but alas, apparently the cars i did that to in the past had vinyl/pleather fabric, and there was never an issue. on the SRX, the fabric is unfortuanely not as tight, so i have some mild sag wrinkles where the stickers were.

tincture of time may tighten them up, or it may loosen them further. i am guessing that further hot air would probably only loosen them more. i am completley aware that this was my own doing and knew that this would probably happen, but i HATE those damn stickers--

so, i'm just reaching out to see if anyone has ever done anything similar and re-tightened the fabric with anything---heat/cold/adhesive spray/staples/botox.......it's not really that bad, but i would fix it if there is a fix.

thanks!

Never done anything like that. Personally, the stickers don't bother me, but we all have our pet peeves. 15 years ago they were a big deal. Now, I'm pretty much used to seeing them on all cars. If they notice that you removed them, your dealer may end up putting them back on. I think they're required by law. I actually saw a "recall" for a Mitsubishi that slipped through without those same warning stickers on.

Now that wouldn't surprise me. There's that pesky "personal responsibility" thing again. They're there because of frivolous lawsuits against the car mfgrs.

yeah, required by law - but not sure what the legal issues are with an owner taking them off... probably not illegal... i would cover them up rather than peel them off though

yeah, well-----i prefer to think of them as like my pillows and mattresses----only I can remove the labels.

and the great thing is that now that i brought attention to them, all of y'all are going to notice them more and more until you too wonder why you need to have them in your otherwise beautiful interiors.

and you'll email me, asking how to do it.........and i'll laugh...................

amazingly enough (although i shouldn't be too surprised), googling the issue brings up tons of info on how to remove them, and all sorts of replacement decals. i even found this page that has decals with the caddy logo and symbol with about 20 different color combinations. http://www.streamlinedesign.com/automotive/visors.html

i'll probably just leave mine as is, but it's good to know that i'm not the only anal-retentive car owner out there.

They used to really bother me when I first bought the car. I tried peeling them off, saw it would be a pain and didn't investigate further. I'd managed to forget they were there. Now, the next time I get in the car I'm sure I'll notice them!

fwiw, this is the decal that they had at the link i mentioned above (http://www.streamlinedesign.com/automotive/visors.html). it comes in several different color combinations. it looks nice, but unfortunately they told me it won't stick to the fabric, it's only meant to go over the existing sticker (same dimensions), and it sticks to that. so no joy for me, but i thought that i would let y'all know what you can get if you like.

Ok, i was going to ask; is yours a custom sticker, application for another vehicle, or is that one for the 10+ SRX?

They are the 8 3/4 x 1 7/8 standard Cadillac sticker that they offer. I choose mid-grey with black lettering which matches well with the grey visors. They are not SRX branded, but at least I don't have to see yellow and red. I was able to get them to fit pretty well but someone with a steadier hand should be able to completely hide the original label.

See post #20 for size. There is an example of it on their website. It is labeled as Avalanche. There is a red arrow pointing at it with the verbiage of "Now available in 2007 and up size: 8.75" wide 1 7/8" tall. The ordering menu is just below that.

...back to the OP, I've done fabric visor before and did this: remove the visor, spray with starch, use a warm (NOT HOT) iron, go over a few times until the starch dries. Leave it flat until completely cool, turn it upside down and test for sag, re-do if needed (I had to do one visor twice). This firms the fabric and seems to 're-stick' fabric to the visor. Hope this helps.

as the OP, i appreciate that! that's the kind of fix i was looking for, and then this thread turned into a sticker forum. i'll probably give it a try (on the pass. side). i haven't looked at the visor closely; hopefully it's not too hard to disconnect.
