Rock 'n August is an annual week-long event in St. Albert, Alberta that's all about classic cars. There are various events throughout the week such as a cruise, drive-in movie, dinners, and an all-day show 'n shine to conclude the week (which is what I went to). I was hoping there would be more Cadillacs since it had no specific vehicle type or era, but it was mostly 1970's muscle cars. Here's some of the more interesting vehicles that showed up:

Before we event got there, there were classic cars to be seen. I guess they didn't get in for whatever reason:

Something caught my eye as soon as we entered:

But this was no regular Brougham..

This was an unrestored 1964 Coupe de Ville, in flawless condition. Only parts ever changed were the alternator and the muffler:

There's lots more images, but they're mostly 70's Chevelles, Corvettes and Mustangs.

Next year I think I'll enter my '86 FWB in this show, along with my friends who both have Firebirds (which there were a lot of as well). Speaking of which, when I drove up, the parking attendant assumed I was in the show and asked for my registration! :cool2:

Thanks for the pics, the blue Caddie ( I reckon '56 model year ) is my fave among those cars . Nice to see such rides in mint condition

Really nice looking cars. I wouldn't be able to stop looking at that blue Cadillac.

Am I the only who can only see half of each picture?

The brown SDV is a '76. The Eldo is, I think, a '79. Beautiful pics! Thanks for sharing!

EUREKA! I'd have spotted that car from a mile away, but I'd have sensed it's ethereal presence long before I could spot it. Those marshmallow tops were never exactly my favourite, Eureka owners seem to adore them. The Half Landau has never been a favourite of mine on the Broughams of that year, but looked stunning on the earlier Cadillac Hearses and interestingly, half-landau Brougham hearses are ugly unless they are Town cars, which are actually very ugly UNLESS they are half-landaus. From what I am told, the Half-Landau can be slippery and you can fall off of it while taking photos of scantily-clad women and break your $400 camera. This seems reasonable and hell, who hasn't been THERE before?

BUT EWWWW! He has that ****ugly front plate. I HATE that plate. I have torn them off of cars before and to see one on a Hearse is just...GAH, I need to kill that guy now. Once in my youth, long before I knew the first thing about cars, my elder brother asked if I'd put one on my car someday (As it was common knowledge by my fifth year in this world that I would definitely own a hearse) and I recall giving him a scar that he still has...

Do you have any more pics of that 1956 and 64 Cadillacs??? Both of those are just epic, especially that factory fresh 1964 car. BTW, on that 64, what is the purpose of that tin can looking cylinder mounted on the firewall, kind of above the brake booster???

Vacuum reserve canister to power the door locks after the car is shut off.

Don't beat about the bush, lad. Tell us freely what you really think.

(I think it's cornball.)

While not a Christian, I still support freedom of religion, so long as the Crusaders don't go trying to kill off my family again, or I will do battle with them, to the death, regardless of if they surrender. Anyhow, the severe corniness is just...It's worse than the 2nd generation hippies who all put Grateful Dead stickers on their windows, because...hehehe...It's the Grateful DEAD, and it's a HEARSE!! lolololo!

I know I've an Evil Dead license plate (Or did at the time of the meet) but that was only there because it was a gift and let's face it, the car looks really lame with a front plate bracket and no front plate. However, I doubt that this fellow's plate was an unwanted gift. Oh well, what can you do. It's not as bad as the people who decorate their entire interiors with skulls and skeletons glued onto the entire dashboard (there was this one I saw once with just about 90% of the interior covered) or the random paintjobs and rims (Also on the aforementioned Hearse) and strange rear interior "details" like random blacklights (not even tastefully hidden away, but the huge disco ones running on inverters) and such, typically to light up things like this:

http://www.coolstuffexpress.com/store/i/is.aspx?path=/shared/IMAGES/york/celestialapps.jpg&w=400&h=400

I kid you not, the aforementioned Hearse had ALL of these, and a tacky room projector (not the kind for watching Television on, but the kind that projects a tiny image on a wall no more than three feet away)...Dear God...does it still haunt me...that and it was just a generally ugly Fleetwood hearse to begin with.

Is your brother still alive after maybe a sideways glance at your girlfriend in her bikini --or did you administer summary justice ??:suspect::stirpot:

Sting is not cool enough for Vinyl tops.

Speaking of Vinyl Tops, Gillian, there is no man who has ever seen my girlfriend in a bikini and has lived to tell the tale, with the exception of myself and as the rumor goes, I've been dead for years anyway.

It's always nice to know that as the youngest male in my family, I could and HAVE beat the crap out of the others in any given circumstance.

Nice bunch of cars..... especially the mint 64 CDV. Looks like you prairie boys been doin' a buncha shopping for wheels here in B.C. Lucky you all got a buncha oil money to spend these days. Sure ain't like the old days.........
Thanks for the pix. I'd like to catch that show maybe next year. Not all that far from Vancouver, And looks to be better than the Caddie show in Victoria last year.

Cheers.....R.

Is that a jet engine or an old-timey air conditioner on the side of that red car?

It's an Evaporative cooler (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evaporative_cooler) (AKA Old-timey A/C)
