recentlly replaced rear air ride shocks on my 2004 cadillac seville sts, with ac delco air shocks. the ac delco shocks do not have the electronic connection for the air ride, so now my computer has locked out the speed at 145 kph. Does anyone know how to bypass the sensors to make the cars computer think they are still connected? any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know a simple resistor can be purchased at radio shack it was posted in the standard Seville/Eldo section awhile ago.

This "2004" Seville TS was probably built in or before June of 2003 (end of production for STS) so it has F55 Magnetic Ride Control. Can that system be "fooled" with the resistor jumper ??? The "Speed limited to 90 mph" is a suspension fault warning. Pull the Diagnostic Trouble Codes from the car's built-in system.

The car's build date is on the driver's door tire ratings sticker. The tire rating will also give you the speed limiter set into the PCM. Enter your car's VIN into the VIN to RPO Converter at the top of the main Seville Forums thread page.

F55 while being the suspension code technically only applies to the front shocks as the rears are essentially unchanged 98-02 standard STS rear air ride level shocks.
After some searching this is the info you need:
4.7k Ohm, 1/2 Watt resistor available in a 5 pack from Radio Shack; catalog #271-1124

Jay,
If the F55 MRC rear shocks are the same units as earlier F45 RSS, how come "late 2002 and 2003 FE3/F55" shocks have different GM part numbers and cost $50+ apiece more than the early 02 and earlier units ? (www.gmpartsgiant.com and the GM announcement sheets for late 02 Seville TS and 2003 Corvette.)

EDIT at 1633 - Just looked at the Cadillac FSM. The module and strut/shock electrical connectors and wiring diagrams are different, too. .......and here's a zinger: F45 uses the suspension controls as height control also - one at each rear control arm. F55 uses the control sensors with an additional height sensor mounted in the upper left wheelwell.

The additional leveler control is a difference however the rear damper valve solenoids is the same unit which mounts to the shock, as long as you use the same resistor it should still dummy the system.

Checking over 01-03 the wires at the damper itself are indeed the same including the circut that runs them as well as color (not that color means much of anything)

Thank you very much for your help, you guys seem very knowledgeable about the sts systems and codes regarding this problem. I will purchase the resistor and I assume it should be soldered into the stock male connector plug side? that would have been plugged into the shock connection.

When I did the bypass on a family members aging 98 STS (wasnt worth putting oems on like my 03 would be if they went bad) I just horseshoed the resistor and then inserted it into the OEM plugs pins then encased it with electrical tape.

yeah, that ^^^^
Some electrical shops and hardware stores also have a goop called something like
"Liquid Electrical Tape". You paint on a couple of coats.

Some dielectric grease would also do wonders, just dont glob it on as you wont be able to use the tape, it wont stick haha!

Okay sounds good i will try the horshoe thing with tape. Thanks again for your help greatly appreciated...................

mjbaron, were you successful with the resistor trick or not. I have a f55 system as well. I hear that you cant trick a f55 system with that radio shack resistor.

He hasn't been around for a while........We posted on this resistor problem up in your Seville ^^^ thread.
