is there anything i should be sure to get or avoid?

I know that manufacturers often make changes during the year and i dont want to buy a car that has had the updates. is there a build date i should look for?

also, what options do you guys find mandatory?

I dont really care about auto or manual.
Recaro seats are a must.
also, i dont want wood grain.
prefer the painted wheels over chrome.

as far as color, i want black on the inside and (in order of preference) black, thunder gray, white.

any help is appreciated and i look forward to the possibility of joining your ranks...

you really don't care about auto v. manual? IMO the transmission defines the personality of the car and the drving experience (though I am careful not to say which is better, because the answer is both (or neither)).

Not sure if you are talking new or used. Of course they are not making any more new 2010's, so you are talking about finding one in stock, or buying used. All 2010's are good. I would recommend reconsidering the polished rims v. the painted. Though both can get scratched, IMO the polished wheels don't look as bad as painted when they get scratched.

i guess the reason i am not concerned with the auto or manual is that a friend of mone has the auto and it goes like hell... generally in a performance car, id choose manual. i'll happily drive either.

if i get any color other than black, i will have the wheels powder coated black, so my concern there is the price... dont care to spend the $800 if im just going to cover it any way. also, i'm not a huge fane of polished wheels on a black car. just my personal preference.

im in the process of locating a new 2010...

Cad CTS-V2 automatic versus manual trans data (as of 05-16-2010):

fully synchronized with single overdrive (MG9):
Gear ratios (:1) 1st: 2.66, 2nd: 1.78, 3rd: 1.30, 4th: 1.00,
5th: 0.80, 6th: 0.63, final: 3.73, reverse: 2.90

Gas Guzzler (GG) tax of $1300, or half that of the A6
Faster by 16 MPH (191 MPH versus 175 MPH (governed))
A tad slower in the 1/4 & on the street
A tad better *mileage* than the *auto* but probably not significant
About 38 more RWHP than the auto on the average
About 30 more RWTQ that the auto
About 95 lbs lighter that the auto
No remote start feature
Has “no lift-shift” feature

Automatic trans (A6): Hydra-matic 6L90E 6 speed
electronically controlled automatic overdrive with
torque converter clutch (MYD): Gear ratios (:1) 1st:
4.03, 2nd: 2.36, 3rd: 1.53, 4th: 1.15, 5th: 0.85, 6th: 0.67,
final: 3.23, reverse: 3.06

Gas Guzzler (GG) tax of $2600, or twice that of the M6
Slower by 16 MPH (175 MPH (governed) versus 191 MPH)
A tad quicker in the 1/4 & on the street
A tad worse mileage than the manual but probably not significant
About 38 less RWHP than the manual on the average
About 30 less RWTQ that the manual on the average
About 95 lbs more that the manual

About 1 in every 10 ’09 CTS-V’s were / are manual trans (M6)

I also would prefer the painted wheels over the polished. Not only for your reasons but the painted wheels do not show the scratches like the polished ones do.

Gool luck in your search.

well...that....actually kinda makes perfect sense.

Plenty of auto 2010's available in the mid-atlantic area. Not sure about elsewhere. Manuals have been tough to find around here; I had to order mine in the spring.

Good luck and enjoy. You are not going to go wrong with a V.

i have a hard time seeing how the autos are faster than the manuals... i have driven my friends auto and its fast, but it doesnt seem to shift as fast as a new porsche or bmw, which i can see being faster than the manual in the same car. the ctsv manual is lighter, has more rwhp and rwtq... is it the rear end that makes the difference?

This topic has been discussed ad nauseam, do a SEARCH and you'll find the whole discussion.

Essentially the auto gearbox is 1) easier & more consistent to launch, and 2) has a gearing advantage.
