I just replaced the front struts on my 98 deville with 65k. I have not had the front end aligned get, but I am hearing a clunk when I turn. What have I damaged, and any idea on what I might look at to correct?
Thanks,
Alan
Clunk when turning sounds like CV joints.
most likely its the strut bearing or someone forgot to hook up the sway-bar links.

I should also add that I can get this clunk when the car is not moving, just by turning the wheel. The sway bar and links are all tight. I positioned the springs and assmbly just as they were on the old struts, by marking them with touchup paint I had handy. Any idea on what I might check on the bearing or its positioning.
Thanks

I would lean more towards the tie rods or the entire rack shifting in its mounts. Have someone turn the wheel back and forth while you check for endplay under the car.

I had the same problem when a friend of mine replaced the struts on my '99 Deville. The springs weren't properly seated in that plate that holds the struts. He had to remove and remount them. Broke a speed sensor in the process

Thanks everyone,
The problem was that the spring on one strut was not positioned correctly. Everything is SMOOTH now that this has been corrected.
