: 425 Caddy stroker motor

Has anyone ever installed a 500 Cadillac off-set grind stroker crank in a Caddy 425 block/motor?

The bore size is of course smaller than the 472/500, but the block is lighter and may make a good candidate for a strong street motor.

500 Caddy motors are still relatively common and inexpensive, but the 425 is an interesting motor in its own right and has not seemed to get the build up attention as a good street permformance motor.

Thoughts?

The engine's parameters do not support good "street performance engine". It's a torquer, not a rever. Made to move heavy loads. It does very well with the heavy load it has to move, but I doubt your going to be impressed with it as a "performer". There was a guy around here who used to put 500's into pick-ups. Because of the low gearing, his engines used to scream. Yes he could burn up some tall rubber, but his engines didn't last very long. He would have been better off with a BBC.

I guess I should clarify what I mean by a 'street performer' engine. A reatively low revving motor that makes great bags of torque low in the rpm range and has a high but fairly flat torque curve across a street level of rpm operting range.

The 425 seems entirely capable of delivering this kind of increased low end street torque.

Is there any info out there of a 500 crank or a caddy 500 stroker crank not being usable in the 425 block?

The smaller 425 head ports might even enhance low speed charge velocity and increase low ed torque.

The 425 block was lightened by Caddy but I see no reason it should't make an excellent street performance engine.

The stroker idea simply enhances the characteristics of the caddy V8 motor - smooth low rpm torque.

I believe this subject was covered in here in an earlier post. I believe a lot of clearancing had to be done to fit the 500 crank due to the counterweights. Pretty sure the deck heights are the same. you'll need the 500 rods and you will have to check the rod clearances at the bottom of the cylinder bore. Egge will probably make PI$TON$ for you.

Thanks - I will look for that post.

Also, will look up the Egge site - will have to find pistons that work no matter what stroker engine I apptempt.
