I was just reading a summary of the 2011 CTS sedan, and it appears as though a rearview camera is an option:

http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/2011-cadillac-cts-8.htm

Does this mean that the camera may be an option (or standard) on the V?

Rearview camera is standard on V Sedan for 2011. Option Code is "UVC."

Okay - so my dealer didn't have to do anything special to order this then? I'm assuming no if it's "standard"

I only ask b/c I bought this car sort of "features unseen", as I do not believe they had any specifics for me (other than the price and the general options - sunroof, seats, etc.)

Yes. That's what "standard" means.

Now, how do we retrofit our '09 and '10 cars with this feature?

Yeah, it's a shame that a camera was not offered for the 09 and 10 model years.
With the high trunk line and fat C pillars, backing up is quite the chore...

From poking around my '10 V, I saw fuses for "REAR CAMERA". Perhaps the fuse holder is the same (or mostly the same) of the '10 wagon.

So..... maybe with a lot of wiring and ..... man is this gonna be hard to do!

Honestly, I have the back up camera on my '10 Jeep SRT8 and I find it useless. I don't even use it.

I would still rather have the front view camera to keep from tearing up the front air dam.....especially if you lower the car at all.

If anybody has a solution for this I'd like to see it!

Here's one solution. It's low tech but effective. :histeric:

Another quick question to stir the pot - any idea if this option is in fact standard and available for Canadian V's? I asked my salesman about it, and he is checking... but he mentioned he did not hear that it was in fact a new feature.

LOL

I can't decide if the whitewalls or the curb feelers are funnier.

It is beyond my understanding how curb feelers help avoid damage to the front end. In any case, I am all for a front view camera. I, like others, would probably never use a a rear view camera.

Many years ego my uncle has installed the curb feelers on his Duster.
They worked quite well.
When you came close to the curb and the feelers touched and made quite racket.
The noise was amplified by the front metal fenders and you new that you were to close to a curb.

If you look at one of the pictures in this post you will see rear vision camera indicated on the window sticker.

It's standard on the v sedan for 2011 i saw one in the dealer already not an option.

Tedboss1, I stand by my statement. I fail to see how curb feelers - curb feelers are on the side of a car, not the front - help protect the front end of a car.

Tedcmiller.
in no way I was suggesting that you should use old curb feelers on your V.
This was an old fashion solution that worked in some instances on side curbs.
I would imagine that front mounted vision camera would be much better solution.

curb feelers must be installed with pimp whitewalls . shag dashboard , dice from the mirror and anything else I missed . Remember when the Electra deuce and a quarters were rolling .
