: My first ever 21 passes at the drag strip

On Friday, my friend who belongs to a Ford Lighting club invited me to get in on their Atco Raceway track rental. There was only about 30-40 cars/trucks there and we had the drag strip to ourselves from 9am to 4:30pm.

I ran down that thing 21 times because there was no waiting. For about 30 minutes, I was the ONLY car running. Everyone else there was going for records and using race fuel, so they take about an hour or so break for cool down and do a pass.

I first did 15 passes in a row and then took a break and then I did another 6 passes in a row. I burned 1/2 tank of gas doing this!!

Yeah I was hot-lapping my car like crazy but I didn't care. I've been waiting YEARS to do this.

Car is 100% stock with 2500 miles on it. Temp was around 90F and humid.

My best time was a 12.992

R/T = 0.799
60' = 2.104
330 = 5.644
1/8 = 8.530
MPH = 86.65
1000 = 10.945
1/4 = 12.992
MPH = 112.13

This time was with car in Competition Mode, side mirrors not tucked in. Around this time I had 1/2 tank of gas left. This was my 4th or 5th pass in a row with ZERO wait time, I just drove back and got in the water box. My trunk was filled with tools and other junk. Kept my heavy floor mats in. I shifted at 6000 RPMs everytime, without using No-Lift-Shift.

That No-Lift-Shift does not work for me. I tried it twice and I just can't get it. I tried it at 5000 RPM and it just redlines and the RPMs go straight down to 4000. I tried it again at 6000 RPMs and it redlines and the RPMs just go straight down to 4000 RPMs resulting in bad 1/4 mile times. Maybe I'm doing it wrong or maybe I'm doing it right but just not fast enough.

All the trucks there are roots blown and mostly 9,10 and 11 sec trucks. Trucks that usually run a 10.0 were running 11.0 due to the 90F temps. The gear heads there were telling me that with the outside temperature and me hot-lapping, my car should run about a 12.3-12.4 in cooler air with a cool engine.

Yeah, launching, hard. I tried everything. It was different everytime. The majority of my 60' times are between 2.1 and 2.3. I always did a nice burnout before.

My friend said he could hear me chirp 3rd every time.

Yeah I had fun!

I have to say, coming home I noticed that my engine has more power and ramps up in RPMs quicker. I guess the computer learned a little.

21 times? Dude, that's awesome!!! :)

It sounds like you aren't doing the no-lift shift correctly. You should just bang away without losing boost or RPM (until it hits the next gear, of course).

I can almost get sideways with my worn tires going from 1-2, which is very tricky to begin with, for I can't just mat the throttle at 600+ rwhp anyways...

I hope (new) 305s will not be quite as slippery. :D

And I completely agree about the whether and its impact on times. Some might look at your 12.99 and think you suck or something. I'd say your times are VERY GOOD considering the weather conditions, to say nothing about not using the no-lift shift feature.

I was at the drag strip yesterday as well and did 11 passes. Here is my best time. I keep beating myself upside the head for my times but if this calculator thing is any accurate then I am doing decent. I still need to work on my 60ft and cut it below 2.0. Everyone keep telling me to get radials but I'm convinced many of you have gone under with the PS2s.

Dude, it sounds like you had a ton of fun, and that's what counts. Those times are fine with the temps you had. Those White Vs are the fastest ones anyway. LOL

The only V2 I have seen on the street was in San Diego; it was a blue one. I haven't seen any other V2's anywhere. I'm sure I'll get all excited like when a dog sees another dog.

What color is your V?
