I have been looking for parts for my l37 and have noticed at engines found at junk yards that vehicle has VIN Y but bolts look like VIN 9. Did they change bolt pattern/number of bolts or does that not make a difference? Even after finding the vin derivative, is there any way to prove it belongs to the L37 or the LD8 if it is no longer with the original vehicle?

Both VIN 9 and Y usually have the same bolts/pattern within model years.
There is a "VIN derivative" stamped or etched on the block pad just under the right (rear) cylinder head at the serpentine belt drive end of the engine. It consists of a few of the first characters and the line sequence number of the original vehicle.
Engine type is the 8th character of the VIN..............
