Has anyone done a rear axle swap or gear ratio change on a 94-96 brougham, would like to know hwo much of a pain it is to have the speedo adjusted if the axle I get is not the same ratio as the one in it

The speedo is adjusted by changing the programming in the PCM (computer). This is done with a special cable that connects to a computer that is running the appropriate software. You can buy the cable for around 50 bucks. Or, you can send your PCM in to get reprogrammed. For cables, I suggest AKM, and for programming check PCMforLess.

What about changing the speedo gear? Does that work in this situation?

No speedo gear in the 94-96. The trans is the 4L60E, the E meaning electronic. There is a VSS that sends the pulses to the PCM, then to the speedo.

to echo what jay said, I had the gears in my 94 Fleetwood swapped to 4.10 gears and a posi. I had the PCM retuned for a bunch of other things as well, but the speedometer correction was part of the equation. It was straightforward and easy!
