There was a huge turn out today with a wide variety of cars and trucks. A lot of common place things, but there were a few true gems.

First, for the Cadillacs:

Now for what Chad has been waiting for:

1975 GMC Sierra Classic Gentleman Jim. All original with 26,000 miles on it. I stood around talking with the owner for about 15 mins and he was a very nice older man who had a true passion for the truck. He was very knowledgeable on it. He even allowed me to sit in it to take a couple of the pictures. The leather seats were very comfortable. A very impressive truck to be 35 years old.

Wow, GA, a great assortment of "muscle cars!" I hope there were air conditioned shops and restaurants to escape the 100 degree humid heat! While I have never been keen on "muscle cars," the group you shared with us certainly was impressive. I also think the picture of the older dude in the star spangled shirt eyeing the Camaro RS convertible is a great shot!

Gosh, I had completely forgotten about those bogus Granada (?) based Thunderbirds of the early eighties. Thank God you took a picture of that bright red "bullet-Bird" (a sport edition no less) to show what Thunderbirds were really about!

I see my good friend Gentleman Jim didn't make it to this show. :(

I do however like that '58 Mark III Continental. Of the 58-60 Lincolns, '58 is my favorite because they separated the headlights from the grille. On '59-60, the headlights, while still canted at that angle, flow smoothly into the grille and don't stick out the 6 inches in front like these do. Other than that, they're pretty similar, with the exception of a revised dashboard in the '60's. I should also state that the 430 CID V8 used in these Lincolns was WAY bigger than the 365 CID that Cadillac was offering at the time, and that it was actually the largest production engine in that time, and at 375hp in '58, was one of the most powerful, making these pretty quick for their time.

That '80-82 T-Bird.....was it nice inside? It looks pretty luxurious from that picture you took, aside from the manual windows.

I find myself not getting so excited about muscle cars anymore, unless it's a beautiful restoration back to OEM spec, or maybe a numbers matching, unmolested car that's so incredibly rare and desirable, like that LS6 '70 Chevelle I saw at Carcraft last weekend.. Muscle cars for the most part don't do it for me like they used to, now it's all about full sized luxury cars. :)

ga_etc
07-25-10, 04:06 PM
The '80-'82 Tbird was in really good shape. The reason I say it was the saddest thing there is because all I saw it as was a rebadged LTD coupe.

I was kind of surprised I was able to get pics of that Lincoln. It was only there for about 30 mins or so apparently. I walked through that area and it wasn't there, then it was, and then it was gone again.

I still like muscle cars. I think there were some great body styles and engines back then, but the spartan interiors leave a lot to be desired sometimes. Right now I really like the idea of restomods. Leave the outside pretty much as it came from the factory appearance wise, but update the interior, suspension, brakes, and possibly running gear to make it a better driver. Unless it is something rare and special. Then it should be restored properly and left alone.

Glad you liked the pictures Orconn. I didn't mean to ignore you. Your post got lost in the uploads. There are normally some super nice cars up there. That '80s Tbird just isn't an attractive car to me. I'm not sure if it's based off the Granada or the Crown Vic/LTD coupe. I think I would rather have the car it was based on though.

Those '58 Lincoln Continentals were really in a class by themselves when it came to size. I think I told the story before about riding to dirt car races in New Jersey in my friend's dad's brand new Continental Mark III sedan and his dad having to pull onto the the shoulder to let cars pass going the other way. There were a lot of problems with these Lincolns; my friend's dad got rid of his within a year or two of buying it and got his first cadillac (before the Lincoln he had always been a "Packard Man"). The Continentals were real impressive in their sculptured, unchromed appearance. I think they looked best in black like my friend's dad's car (he was a successful funeral director). Fortunately, I don't recall ever having been task with having to wash and wax the monster!

My other recollection of these cars was my teenage neighbor (and big time crush) being picked up to go to the Miss New Jersey pageant. Ford was a big sponsor of contest that year and two Ford executives came to pick her up in a beautiful light blue '58 Continental sedan. She was first runner up, and in my opinion should have been Miss New Jersey ... looked like Grace Kelly and very smart. She was two years older than I was so it was a crush unrequited, but we remained great friends for many years.

Love that '70 Impala. It's one of the few cars that looks good in that 70s-vintage green.
