: 93 FWB Rear Quarter Repair…The Hard Way

Ok so some of you might remember a little ways back I smashed the rear of my silver 93 FWB see http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/rwd-19xx-1984-deville-fleetwood-1985/139598-service-engine-soon-60mph.html the damage was really extensive. While I was trying to deal with that, about a year later I got hit on the other side in the rear again. Now she looks real bad. My insurance gave me the runaround & in the end wanted to scrap her for $1100.00, I declined the offer & kept the car. So now with an extra parts car in my yard I have decided to try my hand at body work (with the help of a real body-man of course) I think is going well, what do you guys think.

This is before the first smash.

This is the first smash.

Body work getting done.

Ok so as you can see a lot has been done here. I know what you guys are thinking….why not just cut out the rear fender & replace it like Jim did with his black FWB? Because of my frame being bent in two places the rear fender was pushed in just over 3inchs & needed pulling anyway. My body-man who has over 30 years experience was very confident that the original fender could be used. So up to now I think he’s right. I know it looks like a lot of bondo but most of it will be sanded away to give a real smooth finish. If it turns out wavy or uneven after priming than I will cut out the fender & replace it with the one from the parts car. Please keep in mind that this is a huge job & a lot of damage has had to be repaired, took two days on the dozer (frame bender or re-bender) to get her straightened out. This is a really big challenge & I am learning so much with this project.

Parts car, as you can see I have already replaced the rear extensions & removed the bumper.

So when all the body work is done she will be getting a complete new paint job & new vinyl roof…can’t wait.

Stay tuned.

That's a great looking car, definitely worth the effort. I always loved the silver Fleetwoods.

Is that hood ornament from an early '00s Deville? It looks convex from the front.. Might just be the picture.

Yup, you have a sharp eye. I love the big ornaments from 00 Deville's. They fit perfect on 93 96 Fleetwood’s but nothing else....trust me I tried. :annoyed:
