I am looking for a 2007 CTS-V , I figure this year has the least bugs and problems of any first gen V. I found a 2006 with the special FG2 suspension.. and was wondering if there are any differences with the 2006 - 2007. Is a 2007 any better, or the same stuff?

What year did the diff get upgraded and 'fixed'? I think I read someplace that it was 2006.

I'm no expert, but the diff was upgraded for the 2006 model year.

I've driven a couple of cars, though just test drives. The FG2 shocks, to me, felt more like what I expected a V to feel like. It was pretty firm, but not abusive. The FE4 (base) shocks were fairly soft, to me the ride motions felt a lot like my Aurora. Not like a Buick or anything, but more normal/sporty sedan vs sports sedan.

One small thing to keep in mind, a 2007 is almost definitely still under the original warranty (unless it's higher miles). Most 2006's will have hit the 4 year mark. Also, looking up the extended GM warranties, they seem to be broken down by 2007-2010, and then 2005-2006. So presumably an extended warranty on an '07 would be a little cheaper.

07's are faster.

Raven is the fastest color.

A raven 07, is the fastest stock V. Ask anyone.

I think the 07 had a different PCM than the previous models. I've read somewhere in here where 07 get charged more for tuning because of the difference in PCM. Other than that everything else should be the same.

Don't forget that that 07s have an automatic 100,000mile powertrain warranty from GM.

Raven is the fastest color, but 07s are much slower than 06s. Much. Slower. Ask anyone sensible. :yup:

My two cents on V shopping is this: Consider model year, consider mileage, but when it comes time to make the deal, buy on condition -- the car to bring home is the nicest one you find within your price range, period.

LS2's ('06 & '07) are a GenIV GM motor and have a different PCM than the LS6's which are GenIII GM motors. The tuning is a little different so some people charge more.

OP - I can't think of much different from '06 to '07 besides the 100K mile warranty and somewhere in between the two the latest diff was released. You'll be fine with either year, not many people have busted either year's diff. In fact, I've twisted off an axle inside the diff while the diff is still fine.
